..."measurement from the tailshaft of the transmission to the face of the differential, and count the splines on the output shaft"...

Need this information for a 1-piece drive shaft. I measured my own supra, searched, but still can't confirm exact numbers if there are any.

questions:

1 - Length? I have seen 45" (jdub)

2 - Splines? I have seen 23 (Steve_N)

3 - Do all year MK3 R154's use same specs? if not why would they be different?

Would like to get some solid answers and hopefully help others who are wondering the same thing.

mines about 46 inches

relative to the exact requirement?

"..."measurement from the tailshaft of the transmission to the face of the differential, and count the splines on the output shaft"..."

I measured mine and got 46.5". J-dub 45". Why the difference?

I'm concerned about all the deviation, especially when I read posts about a DS being mm's too long/short.

Need precise measurements and measurement process......

There are variations car to car due to tolerance stackup during production and while it isn't a huge amount it's there and this is why the shop askes you to measure your particular car to be sure.

I measure from the Seal on the Trans to the bolt centreline for the centre bearing and then from there to the Diff Flange, I had this info to the DS shop and they make it based on this spec.

thx for the info, and sorry jdub didn't realize you were auto.

Could anyone post up pics and put an arrow on the tranny and LSD where you are referring to measure?

And how important is it to have an exact measurement? I could easily be .5" off measuring on the face (vs behind) the LSD flange for example. What length tolerance is acceptable?

correct AF, was going to go through ebay to order one.

I could just take out my exhasut and DS and measure the thing. Then maybe jaws can use my measurements for everyone - since it would match stock length.

Ordered a driveshaft from Jaws myself. You measure from the outside edge of the seal inside the tranny housing (where the spline shaft fits) to the flat flange on the LSD where it bolts up.

The proper way I have been told to measure a driveshaft is to bottom out the front slip yoke then measure from the center of the front u-joint to the face of the flange on the diferential, then subtract one inch.

okay got some pics and numbered measuring locations - hoping to get some confirmations if anyone can help. Numbering is in red, hard to read (sorry)

You need a measurement from 1 to the Seal surface at 2 if you're making the mistake of going for a one piece DS.

If you're being intelligent and going 2 piece you need from 1 to the CL of the centre bearing holes then from there to the seal surface at 2 ;)
