Try taking your exhaust off at the cat and drive it around the block. Spool it up once or twice, you'll understand what we mean about the turbo being quieter when the exhaust is quieter. Open DP = LOUD turbo sounds. Almost sounds like a diesel unfortunately... Although when I switched catbacks, I noticed I could hear the turbos better a bit, but nowhere near as much as when running without the exhaust.yongai27;1617436 said:wait shouldnt you be able to hear the turbo better if the exhaust is quieter? Why would the tanabe, if it is louder, make you be able to hear the turbo better than a quieter exhaust? I'm pretty much a big noob, haha this is my first car
For what it's worth, my car's setup used to be BC264 cams, stock twins, 3" y/downpipe, test pipe, RS*R catback. Thing sounded like a freaking motorcycle engine. Since then I've switched to the Blitz NUR-Spec catback, sounds much smoother.Dylan JZ;1617537 said:yeah, that's what I was getting at.. the guy that dyno'd my car a few years back said the 1J had a really smooth sound compared to the RB and other engines he previously worked on.
of course, DP/exhaust/turbo/etc will make the car sound different.

Its just enough to give you car a throaty deep sound and people to notice you a car over but not at all loud for someone to pay attention more than a car length away unless your on the throttle hard and high RPM. It is the best exhaust out there IMO, the only thing I don't like about it is you cant readily hear the turbo like you can like a tanabe or something. Though the tanabe is significantly louder.

That's not to say that I don't like it, but my 7m sounded (well, all 7m's I've heard for the most part) sound a lot deeper and smoother. Higher pitched, is that a more proper description of the 1j's natural sound? As much as I don't miss the issues I've had with my old 7m, I miss the sound...

IwantMKIII;1617612 said::dunno: either way i like it, though i wish you could hear the turbo more readily like most of the straight through design exhaust systems.
Reiketsukan;1617561 said:A set-up like mine might be what you're looking for... I've got a BIC DDP, test pipe, then HKS Sport exhaust. Driving around town, it's all too easy to keep things very quiet. Just keep boost below when the wastegate opens and its far more quiet than any Honda with a fart can. But, when I take it out on the highway and give it full throttle, it sounds mean!
Electronic cut-outs are cool, but for what it's worth, I've read a decent amount of accounts stating that people have a hard time getting them to last longer than a couple years. I've also read complaints that some brands of these valves don't seal shut as well as others, so be sure to research! Again, this is just what I've read. Gennro might have more experienced input since he actually has one installed!
