Ah thats exactly how I want my car haha. I want it to be super quiet when just normal driving, but if i punch it, it should sound nice. Joe pmed me about an apexi valve that would help accomplish that..any thoughts on this valve?

A set-up like mine might be what you're looking for... I've got a BIC DDP, test pipe, then HKS Sport exhaust. Driving around town, it's all too easy to keep things very quiet. Just keep boost below when the wastegate opens and its far more quiet than any Honda with a fart can. But, when I take it out on the highway and give it full throttle, it sounds mean!

Electronic cut-outs are cool, but for what it's worth, I've read a decent amount of accounts stating that people have a hard time getting them to last longer than a couple years. I've also read complaints that some brands of these valves don't seal shut as well as others, so be sure to research! Again, this is just what I've read. Gennro might have more experienced input since he actually has one installed!

Ive been interested in finding a cut out as well to put in place of my test pipe. Always been weary of them and the sealing ability.

Looks like the Turbo Exhaust with the D tips to me. Which is what I have. And yes, it is quiet and powerful. HKS says the Dragger and Dragger II have the "DR" tip, which is the big can. I wonder if you were told it is one thing, and is actually the Turbo Exuahst.

:dunno: either way i like it, though i wish you could hear the turbo more readily like most of the straight through design exhaust systems.

wait shouldnt you be able to hear the turbo better if the exhaust is quieter? Why would the tanabe, if it is louder, make you be able to hear the turbo better than a quieter exhaust? I'm pretty much a big noob, haha this is my first car
Try taking your exhaust off at the cat and drive it around the block. Spool it up once or twice, you'll understand what we mean about the turbo being quieter when the exhaust is quieter. Open DP = LOUD turbo sounds. Almost sounds like a diesel unfortunately... Although when I switched catbacks, I noticed I could hear the turbos better a bit, but nowhere near as much as when running without the exhaust.

yeah, that's what I was getting at.. the guy that dyno'd my car a few years back said the 1J had a really smooth sound compared to the RB and other engines he previously worked on.

of course, DP/exhaust/turbo/etc will make the car sound different.
For what it's worth, my car's setup used to be BC264 cams, stock twins, 3" y/downpipe, test pipe, RS*R catback. Thing sounded like a freaking motorcycle engine. Since then I've switched to the Blitz NUR-Spec catback, sounds much smoother. :)

That's not to say that I don't like it, but my 7m sounded (well, all 7m's I've heard for the most part) sound a lot deeper and smoother. Higher pitched, is that a more proper description of the 1j's natural sound? As much as I don't miss the issues I've had with my old 7m, I miss the sound...

As an owner of an HKS dragger (the one that looks like stock exhaust, not the other one), they are super quiet. Its just enough to give you car a throaty deep sound and people to notice you a car over but not at all loud for someone to pay attention more than a car length away unless your on the throttle hard and high RPM. It is the best exhaust out there IMO, the only thing I don't like about it is you cant readily hear the turbo like you can like a tanabe or something. Though the tanabe is significantly louder.

You mean the Tanabe touring is louder than the H.K.S.? ( the stock looking one?)

haha, it was probably that RSR.. I've always had a Nur Spec, and though it may be a bit loud, the note sounds great.

That's what I'm thinking Dylan. Good sounding exhaust for day to day driving, but holy crap was it annoying on road trips... I'm rather a big fan of the Blitz, glad I bought it. Will be putting in a resonator where the cat went, if I wanna go louder, I can always remove the silencer. :)

Will never understand running an exhaust that requires the silencer to be in to be quiet. All the silencers are smaller than 3" and seriously restrict flow, so why bother with the exhaust at all?

add a regular sized resonator (because the Blitz resonator is sort of a joke) to the Nur Spec or any straight through exhaust, and they don't have to be all that loud. Most of the straight through Apexi and HKS systems I've heard aren't that bad due to using a proper resonator.

personally, I don't drive long distances.. the lack of A/C, my paranoia of something breaking, coilovers, and loud exhaust all sort of prevent me from doing so.. but my stereo still cuts through the exhaust around town at moderate volume.

if pressed as to why I didn't purchase one of those other systems, well I like the look of the Blitz Nur Spec and the company that produced it. Plus, mine was the universal turbo rear section, and I had custom piping made in order to eliminate the sharp bend normally present on the Blitz Nur Spec R for the Mk3.

Exactly my point, the system only flows as much as the smallest restriction. My exhaust is 3" all the way through and isn't nearly as loud as an uncorked nur spec...

I think it is a great exahust. That is also a true straight through muffler. I don't know why you want it louder, but I suppose a divorced down pipe will get noisy when you are on it.
