Hello everyone!!

I will try to keep this short so here goes!!!

For those of you that know me you know Da Soup is an 89 Auto NA Targa. I brought it back from the dead when really it should have been turned into soda cans. Since the car is now complete I am looking to do an engine Swap/Build. I have found a 87 manual turbo hardtop sp. I know that 89 was a transition year and really should be treated as its own special year when doing a swap. If I buy this 87 I plan on rebuilding the bottom rods ect ect. And the top will get port, polish NA cams. I would use the r154, driveshaft and lsd out of the 87. Am I correct in assuming that as long as I use the ecu, harness, tach out of the 87 everything should work fine. Or is their something I am missing.

Ok second question!! This 87 that I have found is in pretty ok shape. BHG but it is all there. Body has some rust, missing moldings and trim but it is a solid car. Basicly should I feel bad about buying it and destroying it to build my car. I would basicly part out the rest of the 87 that I dont need. Someone could save this car and make a nice supra out of it. So do I buy it or do I keep looking for a wrecked 89 and let someone else save this 87.

first, it's only the N/A INTAKE cam that's different, and second, the gains aren't worth it, and if you're going for big power, the N/A cam will choke your motor at higher RPM.

you CANNOT use the harness, tach, and ECU from the '87 because none of it will match up to the body harnesses on the '89 chassis. you have to find an '89 harness (gray connectors) and an '89 ECU from a turbo car. ;)

yellow plug (pre'89) and gray plug ('89+) do not mix.

i'm all for saving the rustbuckets. heh. look at my car. it's ugly as sin, rusty, has some holes in it, faded paint, etc...

i'm saving it. i've found some damn clean, really nice chassis that i could swap all my stuff into, and have a really nice, clean MK3, with some power behind it too. but i chose to save mine.

Thanks Shaeff,

You answered my questions!!! I will look for a 89+ totaled car with a intact driveline. I have to agree I was not keen on destroying a car that could be put back together either. That is why I wanted some input on what people thought. Hopefully someone will buy up this 87 and give it a good home.
