My newest car doesn't have a LSD, my two other cars do. To make a short story even shorter I want that 4.3 LSD. Is it a strait plug and play swap? Do I need any other parts to swap other than the diff. it self? Don't know if this will make any difference(SP?) but all of my cars are pre-89 and one of them that has the 4.3 is an auto.

Nah it's pretty much plug and play. Haha. Take one pumpkin out, replace it with the other. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

But on mine I took the 4.3 open differential out, and replaced it with the 3.91 LSD.

Change the speedo drive gear or use the corrector thingy (the word escapes my mind right now) on the speedo.

Plus he said his car doesn't have an LSD which = 4.3 open. So 4.3 LSD should keep it the same.

Unless you're talking about my car...in which my speedo works just fine.

Derk is the 4.3 not the LSD? Because I thought it was? When I jack the car w/ the 4.3 both tires spin the same direction I thought that was a charistic of an LSD? Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If both tires spin then yeah it's an LSD. But on NA's, most had open differentials that had a gearing of 4.3 and then some of the NA's had LSDs that were also geared at 4.3.

So if your new car doesn't have LSD, it's most likely 4.3 (I really don't think it would be anything else, but if I'm wrong correct away!). And so if you're swapping in a 4.3 LSD, then your speed shouldn't be off.

I am also doing a diff swap. The pass side bolt that goes straight up through the diffs ear and into the body came half way out and broke free. I tried to tighten it back up incase it was the threads but its not.
What should I do? Has anyone had this happen before?
The bolt is out far enough that I can cut it off, but what would I do about securing the diff on that side?
Thanks, Dan

the 4.3 LSD rear end has a sticker right above the drain plug that SAYS "LSD" in red, vertical lettering. its out of the Non-turbo sport package. the quickest way to ID a nonturbo sport pacakge is the lack of a turbo and the addition of TEMS.

and if you want your speedo to be RIGHT, you need the speedo gear assy out of the donor car. you can swap the rear end and your speedo will work the same as before (assuming it worked originally) but itll be wrong w/ diff gears.

Zombi, i dont understand what your problem is. is the bolt stripped out and wont tighten up? if so, youre pretty much fucked unless you retap the nut. you could probably get away w/o that bolt if you dont make massive power or drive hard. if the bolt is stripped and loosening doesnt make the bolt come out, then you need to re-engage the threads that ARE still intact. the best way is to find a way to pull down on the bolt as you loosen it. this is the best way, ive found, to re-engage a stripped bolt to remove it.
