Quick questions for 1J gurus

Please help me! I heard a lot of good 1J guys had migrated over here (I've been on Supraforums), so I'm hoping you can answer my questions. I'm going to be putting a 1J into my mkIV NA supra and will be using my stock W58.
-My W58 will bolt up to the 1J, correct? I know the mkIII W58 doesn't, but I heard the updated one in the mkIV works fine
-Is the serpentine belt for the 1J the same as the 2J? If not, what do I source one from?
-Same question for the cam, rear main, and crank seals
-what clip is the best for me? I believe the Soarer is totally compatible with the SC300, and therefor should work with mine, correct? Since I don't need the R154, should I go with the automatic tranny clip? What kind of issues will I have to work out in this situation? The more money I can save buying the clip, the better. I've already amassed pretty much all of the parts I need other than the clip and the throttle cable (not sure if I'll need the GTE cable or can use mine).

Has anybody on here done this that will mind sharing some info with me?

the only thing different between the mk3 w58 & the mk4 is the bellhousing, your w58 will bolt up as well as any mk3 as long as you use your mk4 bellhousing
i believe on sf there is a parts sticky which has all the appropriate cross matched parts (but no the belts aren't the same)
i would also say that the seals are also different
go with the cheaper clip.. i.e manual or auto, you already have a manual i assume
go for the clip that also has the most electronics available.. i.e plug in harnesses, fcd, sld, emanage etc etc
you don't want to end up with a clip that has a harness you have to hardwire everything to coz nothing plugs in (altho most stuff needs hardwiring lol)
you should be able to use your own throttle cable, and you already have your power steer lines

The MKIV W58 will bolt right up to the 1JZ.

Serpentine belt is the same as a 2JZ.

Champion Toyota sells 1JZ gaskets.

Buy a Soarer automatic front clip and sell off the tranny.

WOW, those responses were much faster and better than I expected.
2J and LS6 aren't options, too much money. 2J is a good engine, but I like the 1J more and don't care about making tons of power. LS6 just seems wrong :D.
I'll be having the 2J water pump in there from a 2JZ-GTE, if that makes it any clearer about the serp belt. Has anybody actually tried this?
When using a 1JZ from an automatic clip, what will I have to do differently? I assume I'll use the automatic ECU, but is there anything I'll have to do to "trick" it into thinking its an automatic other than jumping it out of park? I've done a auto->manual swap on a 240, but that is so much less involved than this swap.

The serpentine belt is the same but for a timing belt you need to use it from a 95 Isuzu or something. There is a huge thread on supra forums in the 1j section that has all of this information in it. There is this huge myth that 1j parts are not easily obtainable in the states but you'll only hear that from people that have never had a 1j. Basically everything is interchangeable with the 2j or has been sourced to work from another car.

Yeah it's an 88 Isuzu Trooper 4 cylinder.

I thought that belts between the 1J and 2J were different due to difference in block heights? I know that the timing belts are different, but isn't the serpentine belt different as well?

actually the w58 in the mk4 if i remember correctly is longer.... and beefier then the mk3 version suze.... but since its being put in a mk4 it wont matter about length because it was made for that car ;)

heh, yeah. I already have the Trooper timing belt. I'm also convinced the two W58s are different breeds of the same thing. My old mkIII was NA and that tranny felt absolutely nothing like the one in my mkIV. The mkIV W58 has an extremely short throw, very precise feeling, and also seems to have shorter gears (may be the differential doing that tho). My old mkIII (pre-1J) always felt kinda vague in the shifting department.
So, still no decision on the 'ol serp belt huh? What did all of you guys do to get yours, just use the one that came with the engine?
