The spun metal core cats from magnaflow are pretty short bodied with tong tubes you could easily make shorter (as seen here, got this one from Raptor Racing, they might even be able to make the custom length you need)

Do metal core work as well as factory? I don't know much about cats and I worry about buying one that doesn't work like it should..

I know there is ceramic core and metal core...which is better?

I have the Blitz Nur and my downpipe (what ever brand it is, still don't know that yet) bolts directly to the catback. No place for a cat or test pipe. :dunno:

Like a few others have said, It's probably best to just find a 3" hi-flow cat in the right length and get an exhaust shop to fit it.

The metal core cats are supposed to flow better than the ceramic cores but you will pay more for them...usually a lot more.

Here's a little comparison for you

I have the older version Blitz and it fit fine with a HKS DP and the stocker. With my Titan Motorsports, not. But thats because the Titan Dp runs straight back at the end, which put the exhaust in a bind. Nice engineering !!

Metal core will flow more and work pretty well. Mine passed inspection just fine with it.

The other advantage is that they're more durable in many ways.

So I found a vibrant metal core 3" for $111....is it indeed functional and worth the price?

I have no issues spending money but I just need it to work:-(

Didn't feel like reading through the whole thread, but with my TMS downpipe, and blitz nur spec catback, the testpipe i had was actually too short. I couldn't tell you the difference if i was trying to bolt it to the stock cat, but with the TMS dp and a 12" test pipe its like a inch or so too short.

Dunno about theirs, but raptors is $180. Not all are the spin metal design like mine that flow REALLY well...

The 100 cell metal core cat's flow the best. That vibrant is a 300 cell. Either will work but it's questionable if the 100 cell will pass emissions in some areas.

A 200 cell might be middle ground.

I'd rather loose a little power then to not have a functional "legal" system...

The vibrant doesn't come with flanges so include flanges and gaskets I'm sure $180 is a good price....

Now I just need to get the exhaust in so I can know for sure as it seems like everyone has a different experience:-(

I'm runing a 3" DP with stock cat and a Blitz Nur Spec II

I had to use a jack to press up where the DP flange and the Cat meet and then shove the bolts in, along with a little pulling from the rear near the exhaust outlet, so its just BARELY too big but if your using flexable hangars you should be fine, if you want I can try and get you some decent pictures of my setup.

Havent read the whole thread, but I have had that exh for about 4 years. Mine bolted up just fine, and if I remember correctly I heated up and bent the exhaust hanger just a little for it to fit perfect under the rear bumper
