I was wondering how many actually do an egr delete. Who has experience with the egr delete and how does the 7mgte react to the delete. Also are these engines prone to hotspotting after the mod ect...

well ill let you know in about a week when my motor is all back together but from the way i see it,if anything it stops the no. 6 cylinder from running hot due to deleting the egr cooler

No6 has been proven with a heat gun to run hotter without the cooler.

It's all in the super long thread about egr somewhere around here.

not to mention the egr really only functions under vacuum conditions, so if youre worried about wot performance the valve is shut by that point so you wont have any exhaust gas recirculating into the intake then.

The real question is why would you want to delete the EGR? There's lots of threads on here discussing it and it really comes down to there's no real benefit. It gets turned off when you're pushing above 4k. The ECU is setup to run with it on there and it will mess with mixtures if you take it out. I can't find the specific thread but one guy measured EGT's with and without the EGR hooked up and they went up a couple hundred degrees Fahrenheit when removed.

EDIT: Hvyman beat me to the post while I was searching for that EGT thread

I have done the search on EGT thread in the last few day. From what I can gather, you may blow up your engine with a USDM ECU with no EGR on a slight load throttle condition. The egr make the intake mix a bit richer, the ecu think the egr is there and that everything is fine when in reality it isnt, you run hotter and a bit leaner, detonation--> RodKnock or BHG.

That was a quick summary of those 20 and something pages

thats all great if your running a completely stock set up but what if your tuned or have a standalone and a a/f meter so you can monitor all this just saying most people want to remove the egr to clean up their engine bay and happen to live places where emissions are not checked id just hate to think that in all our wisdom and knowledge that we can't find a way to compensate for the lack of a simple egr system

with a standalone you can remove the egr without any significant impacts as you will be tuned correctly anyway, the EGT will be a bit higher and you'll have a crappier MPG IIRC

I'm not sure about this but: A simple piggyback won't cut it, you can't play with the timing on a piggyback, you can only trick the ecu and alter the afm frequency signal.
I wouldn't do it unless you have a standalone and a EGT sensor tapped into the #6 manifold runner

It will also work with a aussie or jdm ecu since they don't use EGR.. but there is no point in deleting EGR unless you are using a FFIM it only helps..

Great feedback. So it proves to be a bad idea for my engine. It's will be mostly stock, very little mods daily beat stick with an automatic. Thanks guys for all the info I'm sure ill have more questions in the future.

Good to see some people making the right choice. This is an overasked question with a simple answer, but I'm glad you both made the right call. :)

If you get a smaller one that can be moved to under the fender. Same with the relays and resisters.

I removed my egr and my canister. i had no probs. But i was running 550 injectiors, lexus maf, neo piggy back, areomative afpr, and all my innovated afr gauges and tuning stuff. As far as deleting it on a stock motor i would say that is a no bueno idea.

while on the topic.
is there a downside to removeing the charcoal canister (I did the whole summer without it... didn't seem to affect the MPG and there wasn't that much gaz smell)??
