Question on resonator

From my own experiences it makes for a wonderfully horrible drone through the 2000-2800RPM range on N/As and Turbos alike. Can't stand it... especially while cruising on the highway. I had to buy a bulk pack of ear plugs to deal with the headaches I'm getting from the GTE I'm helping with (of course it's 3" and has a coffee can muffler too).

For the N/A owners who may be wondering. It makes N/As sound a ton raspier (like a Honda after puberty).

If you're looking for a deeper tone or just looking to get something a little more free flowing look into a good frequency cancellation resonator such as that made by AeroExhaust.

^A free-flowing muffler (2,5'') would probably have (almost) the same effect?
((Just asking, cause I may get one soon, next to free. Probably it'll just be a decoration on the wall :D))

Same effect? No... Will it lessen the drone? Definitely. Just make sure it'll fit where you want to put it. Don't get me wrong, it will make a considerable difference but the sound between the two is often quite different and it depends on the frequency the resonator is tuned for as well.

Well the frequency of the muffler we'll probably never know... (usual ''cheap'' pos :D). I even wouldn't consider it if I wouldn't have found out, that my muffler (probably from and Audi) is restrictive (starts whisteling @ about 4k rpm). It's like some giant ass turbo that spools at the end of the rpm range :D.
Thanks CRE :)

Why would you take the resonator out of the stock exhaust? Not going to increase flow as the entire exhaust is the restriction...

Never seen the steel wool and I've had a couple stock exhausts cut to pieces... interesting.

As for the frequency of the muffler Valge, it probably isn't a freq. cancellation based muffler in which case frequency is irrelevant.

Besides, pseudo-turbo == PURE HOTNESS!!!

The stock resonator is a baffled design which is quite disruptive to the exhaust flow by nature. However, yes, with all the other restrictions in the system, you'll never notice any difference other than more noise and resonance. It may remove *some" restriction, but it won't amount to anything you'll ever feel or see in a dyno.

Some idiot hacked right before the resonator, put mild steel piping back to a glasspack on my car.

Serious headache and madness inducing drone. Went to a 3" catback and high flow cat and it's MUCH faster and MUCH quieter (catback has a resonator).

My resonnator was disintegrated, I had it removed and replaced by a piece of pipe having the same diameter has the rest of the exhaust line. My car has the turbo and the exhaust has a pretty nice sound, not annoying at all.

Go for it!
