It is possible to get it off... but it's not easy. We did this on upgradedsupra's car... once. After that he bought a new set of studs with the hex sockets in them specifically because it was such a huge pain in the ass to deal with.

We used IJ's method, left the heater union on, pulled the hood, and a couple of us stood in the engine bay and pulled on it like we hated it. Ripped all the paint off the seam in the firewall doing it.

I come from a land down under
Grim: If you unhook the hood struts then lay a blankie or something on the windscreen you can fold the hood back! (I do this when I pull the motor as the hood is a PITA to pull single handed)

I helped a friend of mine with the same problem. It was just like IJ said...unbolted the rear tranny mount, put a floor jack under it, tilted the motor forward. Head cleared no problem...you're gonna need at least two guys helping ya tho :biglaugh:

Ahhhh...I remember those days...Strong as a ox and bullet proof. And then, after a few beers, was able to become invisible too! :drink1:

Agreed - but this was on Duane's car. CF hood - it's easy to pull with only a single person. :)

Why is it so hard to ship a HG with out it getting bent. It is a no brainier. When I got my MHG from Titan Motorsports it came between two pieces of plywood so all is well.

be careful removing that union bolt. I bought new union bolt and tube to replace the corroded one in mine. The union and banjo tube did not leak but i wanted all new on the rebuilt head. It was out of my car and i used a cheater bar. I had to use a lot of force and just when i thought it was too much and was going to quit the bolt broke free and stripped. Dammit. I had to screw back and forth and got it out. The threads had aluminum in them and the hole had very few threads left. I used the new bolt as a tap and put in a lot of teflon paste. I think it holds water tight. It really pissed me off as i was putting in my engine after it was down for two years and that shit happens.
The pic shows how much aluminum was left in the threads compared to the new one.
