Damn somehow I missed you posting the pics up, I appreciate it man.

It looks like you fan does sit farther back than mine does for some reason, but I'll look when I get home to be sure. I'll also post some pics up for comparison.

Ninja edit: I'm thinking now from looking at the second pic, that the mounting tabs on the radiator I'm using may also be adding to the problem. I'm using a CSF OEM replacement and it has tabs that stick out for the shroud to be mounted on.

did you use BIC mounts? I'm also a pre-89.. both of those may have had an impact on the outcome.

Yeah I am using BIC's mounts, one of the first he ever made.

Here's some pics I snapped today...

maybe the year of shroud will make the difference? i havent seen those mounts before, i bought a new koyo off ebay a year or so ago and a new shroud for the 89' fitment that i hacked up when i removed the a/c fans

you can also convert to a hydo setup, right? or electric...seems like its too much work for little profit. My hydro with a koyo rad fits fine, 89+ non ac

I've tried the electric route with disappointing results. The setup I have now is awesome and works perfect minus the problem of it touching under braking.

My motor came without a water pump and it's hard to find a complete hydrofan setup with everything you need to do it right. I am however, almost at the point where if I could find a complete setup I would consider swapping it over. Especially since I could run a big AL radiator like the Koyo with the hydro setup.

Dude, fstlane88.. I was just re-examining the pics and we have different radiators.. before I realized the tabs were not present on mine but on closer inspection of the top of the radiator, they are completely different even though the they look very similar. from my pics it looks as though my screws go into an actual piece on the rad, versus your tabs.

and you're an 88, mine is an 87 so by logic they should be the same.. I wonder if perhaps one of us has the later radiator or perhaps an odd ball.

EDIT: I was just looking over some pics and realized that there are more variances than I had previously thought. I was not aware there were different radiators throughout the years besides the obvious jza70 rad thats composite IIRC. perhaps many ppl had them replaced over time with OE copies or something, or I could just be ignorant. this is probably better answered by Jeff Lange or someone who would know tech differences on this level.

Yep, I'm thinking more and more you guys are right, the CSF radiator is the problem. Those tabs are making it sit towards the engine just enough to cause the interference.

I'm going to try to return it since I just recently bought it. Anyone know of any OEM replacement radiators that don't have those stupid protruding tabs, and mount the shroud similar to factory, like seen in Dylans pics?
