Hey hows it guys. Ive been reading about rebuilding the 7m, and got a few questions for a regular engine rebuild. Also this is my first time rebuilding an engine.

The beginning...
The engine needed the HG to be replaced, so i ordered a head gasket kit, HKS 1.2mm MHG, Gates racing timing belt, NGK wires+ plugs. As of now im waiting for the new head to come in...

Now...
Since the motor is pretty much apart (piston and crank still in the block) I decided to change the piston rings and new bearings for the rod and crank shaft.

The Questions...
- Do i need to have the shop check the crank/rod to know what size bearing to get, or can i buy a standard size bearing?

- Is there anything i need to watch for or special informaton when taking apart and putting in the new bearings? I was reading on another thread to use alot of moly based lub on the bearing<--- It would be nice if someone can clarify this for me =D

- Im confused about the clearance for the bearings. Is it suppose to be the crank shaft thrust clearance or something?

- Also is there anything else a newbie would need to know/watch for before putting the engine back together?

Any answers and help will be appreciated!!!

Mahalos' and take care guys.

Moly based lube is an assembly specific grease used when putting the engine back together. It will keep the parts lubricated until the oil starts flowing.

As for the rest, take your head, block, and crank to the machine shop. The head and block should be milled so that the mating surfaces will be as flat and smooth as possible. You don't want any warping when you're using a metal head gasket. Tell them to polish the crank and ask them what bearings to use. Every crank I've ever dropped off at the machine shop, and there have been a few, came back with a card indicating the size of each journal and whether it was over/under sized.

When reassembling the engine just be sure to take your time. Torque everything to proper specs and replace any worn seals with new Toyota seals. Anytime you have the engine apart is a great time to replace oil seals.

On the note of rebuilding the motor...does anyone know a definitive source for 7mge torque specs and bolt lengths and locations? My motor has been rebuilt, probably not too terribly long ago. Whoever did it before left a few bolts out, used some that were too long, some too short and others had 9/16" heads instead of 14mm, stuff like that.
I don't mean to hijack your thread but figured this may help you too. I was also considering that this thread was a result of my searching for "basic rebuild specs".
Thanks

Been there (bookmarked) and can't find what I'm looking for. Good walkthroughs, but lacking specs from what I've seen. It mentioned going to 72ft/lbs instead of OEM spec on the headbolts, but I need more. Thanks for the suggestion. If you know specifically where in that index I can find what I'm looking for, couldya hint?

Thanks
