That might be the case with NA plumbing, but a lot of little things can be overcome by just one more psi.

True, but you may also be going past critical velocity for your specific powerband that you are making the most of HP in (not sure about you specific setup, but my thread in the turbo SME section will help you to determine what's good for you). Anything past critical velocity (300 ft/sec) and your psig begins to increase quickly. In other words, your efficiency begins to drop fast.

While raising your boost may help add some power, your would see a larger gain of power if you keep your velocity as close to 300 ft/sec as possible in the meat of your engine's powerband. The real question is, "is it worth your time/effort to make the change, when all you have to do is raise you boost to get a little extra power?"

A TB doesn't flow like a straight through pipe due to the TB plate.

I guess you never heard of thinning the throttle shaft.......

This was a 60mm bored to 65mm, with a thin throttle plate, and a very thin shaft.
The car ran 14.9s in the quarter (All Motor - No turbo)

We're not just talking about WOT all the time. How many people are here run WOT constantly? None besides the track only supras.

and even then

I would not sacrifice the TB pivot thickness for more airflow. Hell no. That is an accident waiting to happen.

I Do. Constantly.

You should see my neighbors face when I come out of my garage!

Guess you know your limitations.......
I have been thinning throttle shafts for over 35 years, with no failures......
So have a hell of a lot of other people.
Never heard of a throttle plate being sucked down into an engine yet.

But I have heard of a dumb-ass here and there who didn't install the screws securely, and having them sucked through an engine.
Guess they were just 'sucky' mechanics..........

BBK 70mm on modified NA manifold works well.
The Q45 job looks cool.
But unless you have 80mm piping, an intercooler with 80mm inlet & outlet, and a T88 or larger turbo, it is a waste.
Any one item on the whole system that isn't 80mm, becomes the throttle.
What good is an 80mm throttle if you only have 70mm or smaller piping.
Not much !
There are many high HP 7Ms out there just using the stock throttle.

how did that 70mm work out on the NA manifold, and how much was the inside ported. im quite interested in that setup as im running a NA-T and will be looking for a bigger turbo and everything needed.

I don't see any problems by thinning the throttle plate either, but just like he said, one loose screw from not taking your time with it will make a nice impression on your piston ;).

congrats

but when i don't know, I ask people that know. So i posed the question to wilson manifolds and accufab. Both came back with a resounding no. Perhaps at minimum boost level but when you have a gt42r pushing air through there. Yeah. I need meat on that shaft.
