Putting my supra back together...

Over the winter I did a full rebuild on my engine and now that I am heading home for the summer I am going to be putting my car back together. I have a few questions. Im going to be running a boss turbo and I am looking at getting an install kit from suprasport, but there are two options available and I am not sure which to pick. Either -4 or -6.

Im also looking at down pipes. Im leaning towards a BIC but I have came across a few defcon dps also. What are your opinions on these two? I previously had a BIC DDP on my ct26 and loved it and the quality. Can anyone say how the quality of the defcon dps are compared to a BIC?

Also, while installing the water pump I stripped out a bolt hole. I was thinking I should just drill it out and helicoil it. Is anyone sure on the size I would need?

Well that depend on which bolt you stripped. Was it one of the ones that go thru into the block, or one of the ones that bolt into the aluminum? If its the long ones, 8x1.25 or the short ones 6x1.00 IIRC. I hope for your sake, that it's one of the short ones because if it's one that goes into the block, you'll have to take the timing gear cover off to helicoil it.

Well, cool for you. You still have to take the water pump off to do it properly. As I said, the small ones are 6x1.00.

Why not just tap it to M8x1.25?

That sounds like a good idea. Would I have too drill out the hole in the water pump or is it big enough already? I wont be home for another week to look for myself. Thanks

You would need to drill the water pump to clear the new bolt. Drill size for a M8x1.25 tap is 6.8mm (9/32" will work).

a bigger bolt in that area is a good idea, all the little ones tend to strip easily

I prefer the helicoil. If done properly, it will be stronger than just tapping the aluminum to a bigger size.

Normally, I would agree. But, the water pump already has several other bolts holding it on and the stress/heat it's under is not that great. You are correct, a helicoil is stronger in aluminum. A drill tap is easier/cheaper to do...I'm sure it will get the job done.
