Hey i saw these in a magazine and wondered if these were all they are cracked up to be

http://www.pulstarplug.com/howtheywork.html

has anyone heard of these or does anyone use these?

are they worth buying?

I don't have any or anything and i don't need any spark plugs yet i just wanted a little feedback on them if possible.

remember there is no free lunch. if they truly had a breakthrough in plug technology and it increased mileage/hp/tq, wouldn't ALL the OEMs be all over it? don't waste your $$...

Exactly what I was going to say.

Exactly.

Whenever you see MPG gaining products, please think of CAFE standards.

Im not saying this product is all its cracked up to be....all im saying is just b/c companies arn't snatching it up, doesn't mean its not a dramatically improved product....especially with the average car company where costs are a concern.

How long was ABS around w/o it being implemented in all cars

How long were disc brakes around w/o even being considered because they were too costly

How long were seatbelts around before they were required by law

Etc etc etc.

hell, just look at our cars....automatic climate control, electronic controlled suspension, speed sensitive PS, heated mirrors. All things many of todays cars are JUST becoming starndards with.

Wow, $25 each. $150 for spark plugs. They're expensive, so they must be good, right?

Try them out, and let us know :)

my question is.....how long do they last? i mean at $25 a piece they damn well better last a looooong time.

edit: nvm, answered my own question....50K miles...which means like 8K on our cars tops.

all the things you mention are added features....as already mentioned, in the realm of fuel economy something that could 10% is worth the $100 it would cost the OEM....especially in light of the recent CAFE changes.

as for the neato moving pictures, one simply moves faster than the other....probably just the film slowed down.

pretty much. here's the core of their claim:

This means that the voltage builds in the gap until a spark can be formed. During this ionization phase, which lasts about 5 millionths of a second, the incoming voltage (which has nowhere to go) heats up ignition components including the spark plug. This is wasted energy. When the ignition voltage overcomes the resistance in the spark gap, the spark is created with an initial discharge of approximately 50 watts. Once created, the spark resides between the electrodes at very low power for over a period of 30 millionths of a second.

What is different about a pulse plug is that instead of heating ignition parts during the ionization phase, this energy is stored in the integral circuit inside the pulse plug. When the ignition power overcomes the resistance in the spark gap, the pulse circuit discharges all of its accumulated power - 1 million watts - in 2 billionths of a second!

the reality is that the spark STILL has to overcome the impedance of the gap....charged capacitor or not.

If you go through life trying to find negative in all of my posts you're going to be sorely disappointed. I didn't mean that negative towards you at all. I was being sarcastic to Dr.Jonez about their proof that they used being cartoon pictures. Loosen up a little...............:biglaugh:

I saw these too probably in the same magazine, Popular Mechanics. I'm just wondering how they think they can get more power out a system that doesn't change using only their new method... And what is that method anyways? How are these supposed to work better than a normal plug?

Anyways... I was gonna try to start a Thread in JetJock's Electrical section but saw this one first... What's the Down and Dirty JJ?
