I can feel mine kick around 4000 rpm also, how would i go about repairing this? Is it something to do with the vacuum canister?
There is a GE stickie, mods and such, it explains the workings of the ACIS.

Toyota didn't actually call it acoustic controlled induction system in Jan of 1986 when the Supra was born.

They just called it air intake system. Or something like that. You will find testing of the VSV system in the repair manual.

Mine has a kick at 4500 then dies at 5500, what you get for having an N/A I guess. :icon_frow

Mine does it, but I enjoy it. To me, it's just part of the power band.
But if you read the thread and the sticky, it's not working right. If it's not working right you are suffering somewere. IE bottom end or top end.

like i said, think of it as an itty bitty turbo ;) like a........CT-2 :biglaugh:. IIRC, low end suffers, that's why it "kicks in" @ 4k.

I feel it "kick in" at about 4000 rpms, but it never dies off, it stays strong all the way up to 6800 rpms where it hits rev limiter.

I have a valve tap issue that has come to my attention in the past few weeks, i'm thinking that is part of my system not working correctly.

Low end does indeed suffer. I'd check for old, cracked vacuum hoses under the intake. Make sure they are all connected correctly, as well.

In a couple weeks I will be replacing all of my hoses. I might start tearing into my spare engine as well and get it ready to swap. (It's a little odd that everything is always getting easier the more you do it, no matter how long it's been since the last time.)

yeah mine's is unhooked i just found out what it actually is, when i was putting my motor back together i was like hmm... there a butterfly in my manifold controlled by vacuum, yeah not pluging that back in and now that explains that extra kick it has at about 4,500 is when i really feel it. i kinda like it ,and cant tell any diff in low end torque on mine.

It opens at 4200, depending on conditions. If you run it open, the plenum is too large to get good velocity, and you won't get the pulsed air effect. So about 4500, you are no longer starving the engine.

Not that different than being on a big cam.
