Has anyone done the 5.0 Mustang manual rack swap here? Any and all input is welcome. I have the same issue the OP on that site had, my rack is leaking. Im fairly big and have deleted multiple PS pump's before but never on such a heavy vehicle, last vehicle was roughly 600lbs less.

Some years ago, an idiot tow truck driver did something that made my PS rack leak fluid as fast as the pump could supply it. I removed the PS belt in order to save the pump until I could source a replacement rack.
Under ~5 km/h it was a workout. I did adapt to it, so it wasn't a problem. I've got pretty good arm strength, and you just learn to get the car moving a little while you crank the steering. Still, I put the PS back as soon as I had a working rack available to me.
The power PS rack will get worse, the longer you drive it without having fluid pumped into it, but there are always part-outs happening, so it's probably not too long a wait until you can find one in reasonable condition.

Parking (especially parallel) and 3-point turns will be the hardest. Also the smaller diameter your steering wheel is the harder it will be to turn it.

Did it, removed everything. only later to spend the money to reinstall and re wire PPS. stupid thing to do in a boat like this.
Manual steering is fine on some cars. The mk 3 is definitely not one of them.

I have had the Mustang 5.0 rack in my car for about 30k miles. I love it and hate it. If done correctly its a great mod, but incorrectly and you risk hurting yourself and others... I don't think I would go back to a standard engine mounted power steering pump though, I like the simplicity of the manual rack.
Somthing else to consider, the quicker ratio rack from flaming rivers (mine is 4 turns lock to lock, quickest is 3.5) makes high speed steering a bit tricky, because they are super sensitive, the slightest bump and the car moves a lot.
My suggestion is if you want to ditch your PS Pump, get an electric powersteering pump from an MR2 with all the electrical tib bits. I was very tempted by this at one point.

As soon as I find time I plan on removing everything, Recirculating the lines so fluid is still flowing, and seeing what happens. Also found out I have a decent oil leak somewhere. +1 to the supra maintanance/to-do list...

PS free since 2010 and loving it. I recirc the extra fluid through a flex hydraulic hose that uses the original fittings to the steering pinion gear housing. I was after more feel through the steering wheel. I have it! Only down side... parallel parking on a busy street. Forget it!
It's not bad with crap tires... get anything sticky and/or wide and you'll hate life (shit, even the miata was bad that way)

If ya have an 86 to 88 I find the power steering to sentive and over powering
