As stated before, the ball bearings are HORRIBLY picky about oil temp, type, amount, and contamination.

Any other questions, be sure to fire them out.

Since I'm sure it's my setup you're working on, what do you suggest oil wise, and any other suggestions that you may have to make this turbo perform at it's optimum level? Thanks alot Jon..................lol

Yeah it looks like his testing compared Time and RPM rather than Boost or Power/Torque to RPM.

I have seen a couple of BB 67mm turbos dynoed on 2JZ'z. One a T67BB .68A/R, and the other being a GT4067BB. Comparing them to every 67mm dyno on www.moreboost.org, they made more power and torque at 3500rpm's and 4000rpms than any of the other 67mm turbo on their.. Just my observation.

-BB turbos are VERY picky about their oil supply (i should know, i fried a brand new GT3582R thanks to a bad oil filter)....

How did you manage to do that? Did the oil filter come apart or something? I haven't had any problem yet with mine .... thankfully (knocks on wood)

wish i knew how it happened. some little bit of something occluded the oil inlet restrictor.... :(

That sucks. I could see how it can happen with that small restrictor that is required though.

Out of curiousity, did you know if you can downsize the drain line on BB turbos from the traditional -10?

My opinion is that if you've got the money to spare..go with BB, if not..then journal bearing isnt a bad choice by any means.
From my perspective (broke teenager) BB isnt worth my extra hard-earned money. Instead of crying about a few hundred rpm spool difference, I would just take the saved money and get a nitrous kit.

it depends on the turbo size and addtl cost. some turbos i sell its an extra $600 or better for the bb. and for a small turbo i dont see the point in spending the extra money. some people are all about spool tho. they want small housings and ball bearings and anything possible so it will spool off idle. thats fine, just not for me.

rebuilding them, if even possible, is a pita and extra money.

fwiw, i sell gt4088 non bb turbos 4 to 1 of anything else. i think the only bb turbos ive even sold have been the gt35r.

it really comes down to what you want the turbo to do, what the car is intended for, and how much you want to spend.

i would think so as BB turbos really just need a trickle of oil to keep things lubed. but given my propensity to swap (or destroy...:3d_frown: ) turbos, i'll keep my -10....

Hey bud,

It is just hard to pass up a precision gt4088 for the price. I will be putting this turbo on my auto after I get tired of the current turbo. I have heard of boost coming on hard at only 3400 rpm on the 7m with this turbo.

^Good man.

Don't fall into the hype of HAVING to have a ballbearing turbo.

It's an option, not a necessity.

Happy boosting. :D

imo... turbo lag is so highly over-rated..... how long does it really take you to gain the extra 200-500rpm in 1st or 2nd gear? prolly less time then your brain can comprehend before the turbo kicks you in the ass and your rpm's jump to redline and your focus is drawn to everything else....... not worth the extra$$$ unless you totally dont care about money.

I.E. a 600 hp honda doesn't spool till about 5000 - 5500 rpm and if you race that honda from 60 to 130 you will loose miserably, and if you see that honda at the strip he uses anti lag or nitrous and leaves the line with plenty of boost. turbo lag to me means nothing in the real world

200-500 RPM is huge... because when they say 2-500 RPM they are usually saying in 4th gear.

Remember, you it takes you 5000 RPM to get full boost in 1st then you won't get it till 5500 which is a huge diffrence.

Boost, IMO you can't knock it until you try it... once you have then you'll know.
