Ok the guy with the 1UZ backed out on me so i'm now looking for another one. Also I started another project (1971 Renault R10 1300) that hasn't ran in 20 years...until today that was lol. I'll post some pics of the supra soon as it's in the shop getting a roll cage installed.

you'll want to get an SC400 1UZ oil pan.
the LS400 pan's sump interferes with the crossmember IIRC.

check car-part dot com for 1uz's.
I grabbed mine from a local junkyard out of an sc400 that got in a rearend collision, but I've seen several on there.

So how good are 1UZ's anyway?

Good.
They're all aluminum so not too heavy. The stroke is near square. Redline is 6500rpm.
If you browse lextreme you will see some amazing numbers.
There's a naturally aspirated one with ITB's, radical cams, and the works that makes over 500hp. As for forced induction: HKS had a drag MKIV supra making ~1500hp with a 1UZ.
That's all with aftermarket rods/pistons of course. I'm not sure where the limit has been placed on stock rods/pistons. rods got weaker when vvti came around I think. (1998?)

good luck on this, i have been very slowly gathering the right parts for 4yrs, i should finally start putting it together in a month or so.
the earlier post is right, you want an sc400 motor or else i would forget about the swap.
in the pre-89 crossmember there may need to be cutting done on the cross. on 89+ there is no cutting, and you could still run the hydraulic fan if you end up with it, there is more clearance up fron on the 89+. either way there is no a crap-ton of info on the 1uz, thanks in large part to our aussie brothers, toymods, and lextreme... anyway, i have been researching this swap for those 4+yrs, if you have any questions i would be happy to try to help..
can't wait to see it done.
