This is really bizarre cuz I know lots of people are runnin intakes......

Tonight I installed the typical short ram intake on the end of my MAF. I then drove to work and didn't experience any problems.... then I left work later got on it a lil,and I felt this wierd surging and my check engine light came on for like 2 sec. then shut off. Ever since then as soon as I hit boost it surges really bad and my tach kinda jumps around its like hitting a rev limiter at 4k rpms. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? I done some searches that have not turned anything up yet. Thanks

Brendan

edit: Im bone stock other than this intake.... sorry.

Make sure the AFM connector is on tight and you didn't accidently pull off the lower vacuum hose to the power steering pump.

Yea check the lines on top and bottom of the accordian pipe like said above and check AFM connector. Mine comes loose sometimes throws a code and was for -Intake air sensor. Connected it snuggly and good to go.

Watch the boost guage, does it fly past 8 before it surges and then cuts off? If you have the hoses hooked up wrong, you could have hooked the waste gate hose up to your power stearing pump. That is exactly why I got my Supra for $1500, the guy hooked it up wrong, couldn't find the problem, and just wanted to get rid of it. I switch the hoses, and it ran fine.

This is really bizarre, last night i fiddled with it a little(took the intake off tightened everything back down) and when I drove to work this mornin I got on it after a couple min. it did the surge thing once exactly as described above and now it works fine..... truly bizarre.
I have a buddy with a turbo eclipse and he think my BOV might be bad cuz its leaking air by, any thoughts on this???? Also should there be oil going into the intake from the BOV??? Thanks guys.

When you stated that your problem started right after you installed your intake, I assumed that you had no problems before installing the intake. So, for this part of it, make sure you hooked all your hoses up correctly. It sounds like you are over-boosting to the point where your ECU is shutting you down.

1st. Double check your hoses from intake to WG and power steering pump. Make sure they are hooked up correctly.

If you have already tried this, and your car is still doing the same thing, try hooking your old intake up again, and seeing if it does the same thing. If everything is hooked up right and it's back to stock, and it's still doing it, then come back and tell us.

I hope that helps.

You can test your BOV by taking it off and blowing through it. If you can blow through it, it's bad.

I just get this really funny picture of a guy with a ring of oil around his lips saying "Hm, must not be working?".

I'm sorry, that was off topic...:nono:

:momaru: I'm guilty of this...I did it once when I first got my car and the BOV was crap. :icon_surp I proceeded to drive my o-so-cool Toyota Supra, showing off, with a sweet Oil Goatee. :naughty:

I hope we get to know what the problem was, or if putting the stock intake back on fixed the problem. I'm curious.

Let us know man!!
