Hi guys

So I've kept this opinion to myself long enough....but now Im just gonna say it...the pre 89' models that had the grill all the way through look so much meaner then the 89+ models that had the grill "cut up" with the front bumper.

I mean look at this

As compared to this

Don't get me wrong , the second car still looks sexier then any other car on the road but i feel the post 88 model breaks up the sleek lines of the supra.

Take a look at these two (yes i know that the yellow one is widebody and the white one isnt but look at the grills).

In the pre 89 model, once the sawblades are replaced with proper rims and the car is lowered , it looks very very mean.

Mmmmmmmmmm nice.Wonder where that bodykit is from its exactly what i want.... Just needs to fit clear indicators front and side and that car is perfection.

Anyway.what do you guys think?Agree or disagree?

I think the front is a push, they can both look great.
The rear of the car is where the +89, hands down looks better.

i have a pre 89 and im going to convert to 89+ tails, molding and hopefully 3 piece wing soon. I love my pre 89 but i feel the tails and molding and wing looks better/.

Kay? Btw 89+ I'd when the front changed. Rear taillights on the pre 89's look a little odd to me.

After some research I've found you are right. The front change is in the 89+ models. Thanks for the correction. Anyway , I do agree with you, the rear in the 89+ models do look better to me (the pre 89 model tail lights are the only thing about it that makes it look outdated in 2011...thats how classic this design is).But thats a small price to pay for a much better front. Also the back end of the older models can be made to look decent with some work...

Owning both an 88 and an 89, I love them both the same. Each car looks aggressive in their own way, and the changes in the design give them their own character, respectively. A Supra is a Supra, regardlesss of generation and year.

IMHO, both stock versions of the MkIII Supra look better than the stock MkIV. To me, the MkIV is a large jelly bean; it's too round!
I do want my MkIII as light as the stock MkIV hartop, and I hope to get the weight down to 3200Lbs.

In my opinion I like the pre-89 more. The 89+ don't say 80's to me like the pre-89 ones do. But when you start doing wheels and body stuff, the 89+ are done so much that it's refreshing to see a modified pre-89 and that makes them look better.

I have both and decided to go with the pre 89. I used to prefer the 89+ back in the day. But now have come to appreciate the pre 89. The molding on the pre 89 is the best by far. The pre 89 front bumper is better looking but sits a little high. I like the pre 89 spoiler but the 89+ lights. I would do the light conversion because I have all the stuff from my 89+ but the two styles clash. The pre 89 tails remind me of the tails on my old 87 celica. Over all the pre 89 looks better in my opinion.

Wow nice to see i am not the only one who likes the Pre 89. I was going to do the 3 piece spoiler and the tails but decided to let mine keep its original identity. Also my trim almost has a gun metal gray look and i would lose that in the rear with the 89tails. I have learned off my wifes 89 N/A that ALL supra's should have a spoiler just to open the damn HATCH. I also agree the Mrk IV looks like a jelly bean

pre-89's only look good from the front imo. any other angle the bumper looks like shit, its angled wierd at the sides and it sits waayy high. a shine lip makes on looks great though.

89+ are just sexy all around, more lip options, turbo a duct, air guides. so many options for them.

i like them both though :D

+10000000000. the pre 89 bumper is good for three things, the lack of an ugly raised center section, removable grill, and the pre89 fogs. But as said, it does look rather out of place from anywhere outside the realm of between 10 and 2 o'clock from the front end, this is in reference to stock bumper and lip. With a bomex or similar front lip, my opinion changes completely (many of the odd angles kind of seem to fade out).

IMO, the best combination would probably be an 89+ with the raised center section removed and filled, grill cut out and replaced with an S2 airguide..

My friend has a pre 89 with the center of the upper front bumper looking down a bit, it looks even more aggressive.
