Why take yourselves off the list? Doing so doesn't help the cause. There is no cost to be on the list.

It is a shame this could not happen. I don't understand why a 50% deposit from a number of people could not get the ball rolling.

The group buy allows Shine to recoup the cost of product development and generates minimal profit, if any. If a product cannot be launched with a group buy, it's a strong indicator of the product's performance after it has been made available for purchase. Shine is here to support the MK3 community, but it has to make business sense.

The same applies to a the pre89 lip http://www.supramania.com/forums/sh...People-s-Choice-quot-Pre89-lip-design-contest

I understand the reasoning. I guess I'm too much of a skeptic to pay for something upfront without any recourse to get my funds back if the product never materializes.

Payments are not taken until 25 buyers have been reached. That's why the title states "committed," instead of "interested." There is no risk for you because if payments are being collected, it means the product will be produced.

You seem surprised ;)

Mk3 owners = cheap
pre89 owners = even cheaper
87 Owners = cheapest.

sad but it's reality so doesn't come as a surprise to me, seen a LOT of prospective GB's/deals fall over for the same reasons and it's why for the few things I've pushed through I've footed the entire cost of development myself.

fixed it for you. ;)

Well, I guess put me back on the list. Even though I own an 87 that just turned 65K miles this year, I don't consider myself cheap. I am more than happy to pay for the product. My question is, that if we get 25 committed and not all the committed actually commit financially, then in what position will the people that committed financially (meaning paid) be in. Will refunds be given? I guess that is why I thought a 50% deposit from interested people would be a better indication of who will actually follow through with payment.

Chris, Rodel,
I'm afraid I'm going to have to take myself off the list. Things have changed quite a bit since this list started, and while I've LOVE to get my hands on one of these, I just can't spare the funds now. Sorry guys.

PS- Chris, I hoping to get my car wrapped up soon. When that happens, you'll be the first to know. I owe you bro!

Dan,

If there is indication that any of the 25 "committed" buyers are not actually COMMITTED, then I will neither be asking for payments nor ask Shine to initiate the manufacturing process.

As you've suggested, the 50% deposit might help people sign up for the group buy, but 50% is not "committed." A lot of time and effort goes into managing a group buy, so I prefer not to allocate my time to 50 percenters. Besides, we're talking about a part that is in the $125 to $200 range, not between $1250 and $2000.

First let's get 25 "committed" buyers, then we'll address payments later. Let's do things one step at a time.
