Looking to see if people unhook the powersteering cooler without any problems happening (little metal loop behind the bumper). The lines are in the way of my new intercooler piping set up.

I wouldn't run without one, back in the day all the DNF's on the race cars were due to PwrSteer failure ;)

Thats an ugly way to loose a race, why not just finish with armstrong?

I use the stock GTE engine oil cooler, because of my IC pipes/turn signal were in the way.

Big sticky tires lots of mass and no pwr steer probably made it almost impossible to drive after a few laps.

Yah I guess it would take it out of you. Man I'd be upset if I was the driver...

iceberg319- I would think it's not much of a big deal if you're car is not raced, and your climate isn't really HOT. The way I look at it is overkill compared to the stock PS cooler.

Yeah, I'm up in ny and see only a handful of 80 degree days. So it's not that hot. Has anybody ever experianced powersteering failure or just read about it in race cars.
I can't see that little line cooling the fluid much especially with the heat that a race motor would put off.

Our steering runs damn hot, the fluid breaks down and even if it doesn't "fail" it's wearing the pump and rack badly.

I don't think the ambient temps will make much difference to the components if you don't have a cooler as it's all within the engine bay right next to the hottest area (Turbo and Manifold).

As I said I run a real cooler and a filter to help combat this.

Guess I should have kept my oil cooler then.

You guys are alright without running the oil cooler to cool the oil then I take it.

What Ian said. The biggest killer of hydraulic systems is heat and contamination. Good cooling and a filter can make a difference as can synthetic fluid. After 22 years I have an original pump, rack, and hoses that say so...

What kind of filter set up are you using then.

No.
I'm running an aftermarket engine oil cooler setup.

I just installed Magnefine 2 months ago :)
I guess installing the PS oil cooler on a N/A is almost as worth it as on a turbo (no turbo heat, but still)?

I run a 4AGE oil cooler as my PS fluid cooler next to my hood latch. I need to upgrade it though to something better, along with the oil cooler. Remember one very important thing, heat kills. That's why I have a large intercooler, PS fluid cooler, Koyo radiator, and more cooling parts on my list of things to get.

High RPM + using the system (turning) = power steering fade.

I've never lost it, but I have felt it fade considerably doing canyon runs...
