Power Steering Pump Acting up, Looking for answers

Well, today the weirdest thing happened. I turned on my car and i heard a horrible noise coming from the engine. I was checking my oil at the time, so the hood was open. I looked and saw that the noise was coming from the power steering pump. I looked in the reservoir and it looked pretty full. I did notice that the color was grayish. But anyways, i was heading off to an interview so i just buttoned it up and left. The power steering was totally cranky the whole time. Any time i was turning even the slightest it would whine and i could seriously feel it. Well i was pretty concerned. So i went to the interview, got out and then i got back in the car. Well, nothing at all was wrong afterwards. I am so confused. Anyone else have this happen on their 1jzs? I don't get it, i mean, not even the slightest noise on the whole way home. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for reading!

Hahaha, mine is doing that now. Short of tearing out the whole P/S system to try and diagnose, I'm at a lose of what to do. I've bled the system, checked all connections, checked flow.. its working.. its just, pissed off.

Mine still hasn't gone past driving around the neighborhood. I burped the system again, but haven't gotten a chance to run it again as the weather has been crap.

But yea... I've got no bloomin clue. Its almost enough of a mystery to get a shorter belt and skip the P/S pump and just drive with manual steering... but not for a DD.. ugh.

When I got my 2jz motor working everything was ok except the PS pump.
I had no power steering at all :aigo:
Got a 1jz pump which fits on the 2jz motor without any mods...
With the 1jz PS pump I had a 100 % fully operational power steering!
But at the beggining I was hearing some funny noises coming from the
PS pump....and I still do sometimes when I first (cold) start the engine.

Don't know what is going on?
I bleed the system,I checked for bend hoses, reservoir always full, and
I have no leaks at all...
Maybe some small amount of air gets trapped into the system :sarcasm:

You can also try turning the wheels hard left and hold it there for a minuite, then hard right, hold it there a minute. Test drive it to see if the problem has abaited. Van

sounds like a combination of your PS system being to hot & your pump being worn out.

Viper, I don't mean to hijack, but I made a quick vid of my steering today during a break in the weather.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKA3mKb6Lek

The steering makes this awful noise ONLY when under load. Jacked up in the air, car running, turn the steering, no problems. Open up the resevoir in either case (on the ground or jacked up), and the fluid is swirling, obviously flowing. However when under load, and its making the noise, the Pressure line vibrates like a motherfucker. Is this what yours is doing?

Does anyone know why mine is doing this? Suggestions?

NOYFB!
Mine was doing this also. Found a small leak at the outlet line,(fitting was loose) that was re-introducing air into the system everytime I shut down the car, and let it cool off. Everythings tight now, but I haven't really driven anywhere yet, so it is still making some noise.

Yup, that is exactly what is happening. But mine was 10x worse that one day. I am going to be driving her like 400 miles tomorrow back to Spokane, so i sure hope everything is ok :) Mine was actually making the noise when it wasn't under load too. Just worse when under load.

That sounds like a great idea. I will check it out. Yeah, it works perfectly most of the time. This one time it was just horrid. :)

Wow, I think all the 1jz Pumps banded together and said "FUCK YOU!" to us.
*sniffle*

2JZ GE here. but it's the same fucking pump.

It Seems If you run Power-Steering fluid it gets worse.

I flushed with ATF.
