Power loss over 5 grand, normal?

I notice that when I floor it my car pulls pretty good from idle to about 5 grand but from there to redline it seems like the output trails off. The revs climb real fast to 5, but going from there to redline it seems to take a really long time. I notice it most at the top of 2nd and the top 3rd. Anyone else notice this? I was just wondering if this was normal for an na 7m.

i noticed that, i think it reaches its limit at about 5800rpm, but for me, at about 4000rpm thats when i really feel it roar

Check your timing first off.

my car slouches til i hit 3000, then it moves; when i hit ~5000 it goes SSJ and screams til i shift around 6000-6500 (when pushing it really hard)

so no, it should not be doing that

Seems about normal to me. What are your mods if any? Mine pulls hard to about 5500 and after that its really a waste. After being dyno'd a few times it show its best for me to shift no later than 5600 or so to optimize my powerband, it falls hard from 5800 to redline

I dunno, my car pulls fine up to 6k. 205,000+ miles, stock internals. Maybe 1 or 2 bolt-ons

With a 3" exhaust and timing set to 12 degrees BTDC my car would pull till right before redline. Optimal shift point was about 6350 rpms.

On the ol GE of course.

Dunno, if we get the max torque at 3400rpm, why take it so high as >5.5k.
When my father drives, he feels the shifting point at about <5k and says, that the car isn't really getting a lot faster after that point, just loud. I don't have so good ''sences'' though

You dont wont to shift so early as to be waiting for the power band in the next gear. Although we arent making much more power over 5200 RPM we arent losing either. We just ride the flat spot of the curve and shift so as to have engine pulling as soon as we are in gear.

If you shift at 5200... then in the next gear there are how many rpm's? 4.x? Why do we need that, if the max tq is at 3400 (by the book). And isnt max tq almost = max acceleration? Or am I just ignorant?

ya it may loose power around 5 the na cams are designed more for lower end torque. I'd also take a look at your timing though.

Mine does a little of that as well. The only time I gun it past ~5.5k is when i'm going in a tunnel so I can enjoy the great acoustics of a 7m.
