Thank you for that information. very helpful in understanding somethings about meth/water injection. Its crazy that you jumped up that much in power with less boost just from timing and tuning! Im still using an SAFC for tuning so i dont think i would get as high of gains, simply because i wouldnt have nearly as good of a tune. But im pretty curious in seeing how much i could gain with meth injection and alittle higher timing.

Your missing out on a ton of power using an SAFC, an EMS and meth injection would change your mind about a turbo upgrade....for a while, as we all need more and more power :)

haha.. honestly right now more power would be useless to me.. i really need some beefier tires.. i just put on a divorced down pipe.. and WOW it added alot of power, as soon as i hit full boost the car just walks all over the road and sounds nasty :p So better tires, meth, and possibly rims will be my next steps.

i think ill wait until i have the ability to tune timing instead of letting it dance around when i pull more fuel with a safc... ohhh the money pit just got a bit deeper :)

i'm thinking of going meth on my setup soon but i too only have an safc. would i still make some power gains just tuning the afr's or will i lose power not being able to control timing? if i can get like 20whp or so for now i'll be happy till i can get a standalone/

Wow... holy thread resurrection, Batman.

It depends on what the rest of your system is. If you have a turbo that can push more air without going too hot, then you should see a significant increase simply because you'll be able to run more boost before hitting detonation.

However, if you've already maxxed out your turbo capacity, you won't see much.

After reading all this, I'm scared to install my kit.

I wouldn't be, I've been running my meth setup for over a year now with no problems on a stock ECU... for awhile it was with the MAFT basic then switched over to Speed density about 7 months ago.

When I was running the 60-1 CT with the MAFT basic I couldn't run over 14lbs without my knock monitor heading into the far yellow, with the meth I was able to pull 18lbs and have the knock stay between 0 and the first green LED. My A/F ratio was sitting around 11.8.

I fill the tank with a 50/50 of 99% pure methanol and distilled water. There's a chemical company in my area that sells it for $1.70 a gallon I believe.

Some people use winter windsheild washer fluid but I never had good luck with that stuff, most of it around here is pretty watered down even for the winter blend.

What did you upgrade the maft basic to? Woudl the maft pro be able to alter the timing maps enough or safely enough to take advantage of the methanol? Or Is this something strictly for a standalone?

I'm rinning a HKS VPC along with an SAFC.

Just because your not running a standalone does not mean you will not take some benifit to running methanol. In a sense it's similar to race gas... you don't really gain any power from running race gas although it does decrease your chance of detonation that lets you advance your timing and up your boost safely, same basic principal as methanol.

But regaurdless of what you install on your car, the better your tune is the more power you will yeild from it, along with running at that level safely.

maft pro has basic timing additions and subtractions... Stock ecu has more then enough timing up top to justify methanol with higher boost alone imho! (17-22* after 5500 rpms)

Is there a "rule of thumb" in relation to the amount of Timing to add per an amount of water/meth? You know, like for every X amount of NOS subtract X amount of timing...

Tekdeus said that he saw a 1.0 change to the rich side when he first introduced water/meth. He was using the big nozzle.

Well, grim. I guess it's time for me to hook up the timing control...eh!? Is it fairly intuitive to adjust?

As promised earlier in the thread. Here is what my car makes on meth.......it's actually boost juice from sumitt http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=boost juice&dds=1

At 18psi, I make 539rwhp and at 22psi, I make 616rwhp and 569 rwtq. I run basically about 17degrees of timing in the higher boost range. I don't regret going with the meth kit at all. It's probably one of the best things I've ever added to my car.

timing control is simple to setup, but you have to get a timing gun to verify it at idle, then at higher rpm ranges.

I think mine is two quarts. I have to fill it about once a month or maybe even two months. I don't get in boost everywhere I go though.
