ok well it all started on friday i was cruising around with my friends on the freeway. i saw some sprinkles of water on my windshield so i looked at my temp gauge and nothing happened. got off the freeway and was goin into the canyons and all of the sudden i look at my gauge and its goin up, so i pull over and its steamin out the overflow. take off the rad cap and see that the waters pretty low. being a supra owner i have a gallon of water in the hatch. she drank like almost the whole bottle before it got full again. drive back home on the freeway at 65-80 even boosting some to see if soemthin will happen. nothing happend. last time it blew i couldnt even drive like a block without it getting hot.

ok so i went out again that night boosintg like crazy burning out and stuff and it didnt get hot at all. checked the water today and it was kinda low. no smoke, no milkshake though.one thing thoguh i cleaned out my overflow tank cause there was all this gunk holding the little floater thing but now when i was driving around a little on like inclines and stuff i saw the birdcage flash real fast. so i pulled over and checked the water and it all looked good no bubbling or steam.

i think im gonna try a rad cap from toyota and i need to flush the coolant its still old old coolant. if that doesnt work im gonna take it back to the mechanic that did my HG and tell him whats up.

what do you guys think it could be?

oh i forgot to add i put a HKS bead style metal head gasket

could try a thermostat. a few of my friends say my symptoms could be BHG or just a thermostat. I saw smoke come out of rad filler cap so i know its a BHG. But it might just be the thermostat in yours. You could also try burping the system.

ok well found out my fan clutch went out. so they put a new one on. i told him about retourqing the head and hes like " i did it to factory specs, and dont think you should go higher." so i told him that ive been listening to everyone and they tell me to do it higher. so he said try the fan clutch first and see what happens.he said why do you want to pay more money to do that? i was thinkin why do you care, dont you want my money? ( im lazy and dont feel like trying it myself, plus im very limited on tools.)

so i took a little road trip to get it hot and it drank a gallon of water in one day. coming out of the overflow or whatever.

so i guess im gonna see if someone can do a compression test for me and see what happens. also i guess ill see if someone will retorque my head

So, to re-cap. Looks like to me they used the factory bolts torqued to factory torque spec on a HKS MHG. Machined the head, but did not machine the block (they have to pull the motor to do that). I seriously hope these guys did not use a spray sealer on a new HKS MHG. Doesn't sound like this mechanic have much experience with the 7M motor ;)

Judging from the above...you have a BHG ;)
I suggest you stop driving the car now...you do not want to FUBAR your bearings from coolant contamination.

The HKS MHGs require an RA spec of 30 on both the head AND block to seal correctly. If you use factory head bolts, they should be torqued to 72-75 ft/lbs (especially on a MHG). ARP head bolts or studs would have been a much better choice, torqued to the ARP spec.

no i did use ARP bolts. i think the block was machined cause i told them the thickness of the headgasket i was gonna use.

damn i love the car but if since its my DD and i have no money im about to sell the damn thing. when i had my camaros they never had this many problems and if they did it was something real simple.

If he used ARP, and used Toyota torque values, you NEED to retorque!

Oh, and you're supposed to deck both surfaces as little as possible for the finish you need, measure it, and THEN order the MHG, not the other way around!
