Here's the deal. I can buy a MKIII turbo automatic shell for $400 no engine or tranny (I like MKIII body style better than the MKIV). I can also buy a 2JZGTE with auto tranny, ecu, wiring harness, fuel rail, and some other things for $2100. Would it be worth my time and money to install the 2J in the shell to make my daily driver a stock 2J MKIII for under $3000?? Please let me know any opinions or if this would be a waste of time.

Not going to happen for 3k. If you can double your budget, then it might be doable.

But definitely worth the time and money.

I did my swap for 4k and it took me 6 months...I had the harness done for free from a local member though. I did however do a 5 speed swap at the same time and that was 1300 in parts alone. It can be done if you have the right resources and wait for deals.

As the other guys have already pointed out, 3k isn't gonna happen. There are always little things here and there that you're gonna need, things you're gonna need to fabricate, and things that are either going to be broken or break. Figure I bought my car for 5k (because I'm an idiot who sorely missed his 88 haha), and had swapped in my 1j (BC cams, head porting, y-pipe/downpipe) for around 4k, painted it for ~$1000... Like I said, lotsa little things. Still, worth the time and effort if you can appreciate these cars and their sometimes erratic behavior. :)
