Possible Bad Piston Rings??

Okay so I'm buying a supra and it has some engine problems. I'm merely curious about what the problem might be. So far I ruled out the blown head gasket but my friend said it might be the piston rings.

The problem is that the car right now has blue smoke and smoke is blowing out of the hole the oil dipstick goes in. I was checking the oil and when I took out the dipstick, smoke started to blow out. The guy also mentioning oil blowback; which is the pcv valve shooting oil back into the intake manifold right? Does that also point to bad piston rings?

What else could this be? So far I just have piston rings in my head; possibly bad valves as well. Any input would be great.

Another thing is that the car DOES NOT pass smog; is that due to the burning oil as well? Say the answer to the first question was piston rings; would doing a piston and valve job solve this smog problem?

Thanks in advance!!

sounds like bad rings. either way its going to need a rebuild and you will do a hg. after rebuild it should pass smog. i wouldnt pay more than 600 for it.

If you buy a Supra, save a huge pile of cash for repairs. Then double it. If you are going to do a rebuild anyways, replace everything while you are in there. You only want to do it once. If you aren't a good mechanic, find the right shop to do it for you. Or there will be financial pain and stress. gl.

$600 my ass lol i've been rebuilding my engine for the last 9 months. taking so long because it cost so much. i've spent about 3500 for it and i got almost everything new. even the head cuz of some dipsh*t spun a bunch of bearings and didn't get it fixed:3d_frown: clogged the oil pump. so yeah not a cheap car to build. do it right so you don't have to keep dumping money into it later:naughty:.

are you guys saying 600 meaning you guys take out the engine, tahe it to the shop to rebuild, then installing the engine yourself?

or solely just doing everything by yourself including the rebuild and 600 goes to the parts?

because ive been calling aroung and getting 1800 the lowest and 3800 the highest.....(that is shop doing it all)

i don't know how much it would cost to have a shop rebuild your motor. i've been slowly rebuilding mine myself. the total amount that the shop i had do all the services was $732. i had them hot tank, bore, and surface the block. recondition the rods and pin fit and align them too. then surface the head and did a valve job.

the cost for all the internal parts was $1377. thats pistons, rings, all the bearings, the crank polished and balanced, a complete gasket kit, oil pump, timing belt and tensioner, freeze plugs, pin bushings , a newer head that they had with only about 8k miles on it, and new cams

then all the other parts like new hoses, cam gears and so on was about $1500

so if your gonna rebuild the whole thing it not gonna be cheap.

if you don't need all of that it would get you out of a headache of a deal lol
maybe just rebore and surface the block, balance the crank and new bearings, get new pistons and rings, a gasket kit then a valve job and surface the head you should be good.

i may be wrong so if anyone thinks i am please let me know

LOL GOOD GOD MAN!

9 months huh...no I plan to finish my rebuild like less than a month >_<
I have some friends and a socalsupra guy coming to help out with the rebuild. It sounds nice what you're doing but I don't think I can fork out that much time and cash.

Anyone else wanna chime in?
