Polyurethane Shock Bushings?

First off, I'm not sure if this belongs in General, or in the Suspension/Vehicle Dynamics section. (Mods, if you feel this would be better off in the Suspension section, please move this thread.)

Now onto the questions.

Does anyone make poly bushings for shocks? I've looked and could not find any, unless I'm not reading the descriptions correctly?

The bushings I'm asking about are the ones that are pressed into the bottoms of the actual shocks; where they connect to the lower control arms.

Would there be any disadvantages of running polyurethane over rubber in these places?

I don't think it would be noticeable. It seems to be there more for protection between the metal than for absorption. The good part is that it should last a very long time.

I come from a land down under
I'm guessing they do exist but I've never seen/used a set I would expect them to deform and fail due to the impacts the suspension sometimes receives, rubber has a hard enough time surviving there.

Eh, it's not worth the effort. The rubber thing Koni supplied me has lasted a very long time. Plus, polyu in that place would have to be pretty hard to take the constant force and will let much more high-frequency vibration into the chassis. And, it's not like the location of the shock is critical to alignment.

I've tried this on other cars with standard tube shocks, and always went back to rubber because of the high-frequency noise.

Maybe with high-end shocks the high-frequency movement wouldn't be as much of a problem, since they move a lot of fluid for small motions. But, then you're in a different league...

Yeah, one of the bushings is torn, another is squashed. I don't feel comfortable putting the shocks on my car with the bushings like that...
