I'm lazy and there's no way I would spend the time hand polishing an intake as there are so many hard to do spots.

I agree....now. I did the upper manni once and it will be the last. It pays to pay. Although, jdubs suggestion sounds best for long term. Heres a pic of the one I paid to get done. Looks alittle better than the one I did.

How do you guys polish the alternator. Do you take it apart first? Or do you just polish it as it is?

Someone told me not to take it apart but I would imagine that I could ruin it pretty easily if I don't.

taking it apart isn't too hard, but I haven't polished much of anything on my engine...

too much damn work, and I drive it too much

I have finished polishing all the parts now and yesterday I clear coated them.

I used some high temperature clear coat but it doesn't look good. It gets a bit milky after baking it (it says on the bottle to bake the items for 15-30 min in an oven).

The coat seems very durable but it doesn't look good in bright light. It gets a milky/blue haze.

I then contacted the local powder coating shop but they didn't want to have anything to do with clear powder coating polished aluminum. They've had some bad experiences with customers who wanted everything redone several times because of small imperfectings or thumb prints.

So long story short:
Can I use some regular clear coat on the manifold and valve covers or will they get too hot for that to work?
