Hey I have an 89 turbo and it runs but the turbo doesnt seem to. On the road tho sometimes the stock gauge would jump to 8 psi. It sits on the 0 when driving and -4 when its idling. ALso it puffs out random white smoke and it runs absolutely perfect (idle, moving)otherwise!!?? ANy suggestions? Thanks

It could be a number of things.

First, check to make sure your boost hoses are crack and leak free.

If they aren't we call this a boost leak. This will make your car run off beat.

Do a compression test. Sometimes a bad cyl or leaking valves will cause the car to not run in the vacuum range at cuising speed.

Also be sure to check that the boost gauge is hooked up, you have no vacuum line leaks.

Last, take the intake (accordian hose) off and turn the turbo compressor wheel by hand. If it rotates smoothly, then the turbo could be ok. If the turbo doesn't rotate smoothly, has side to side play, or in and out play, its most likely the turbo is dead and needs a rebuild or a good used one installed in its place.

Good luck and happy boosting.

does the car seem to have power and pull like it is fully boosting?

He said the turbo doesn't seem to run so I'm betting he's either got a bone stock car that he can't really hear the turbo on (and feel it kick in really). Or his turbo dead ;).

Those are normal from what I know. If it sits at zero when you get on the throttle I would say something is wrong but for cruising that is normal.

If it's on zero when cruising (not accelerating, but staying at a constant speed) it should be in vacume. I'd say there's some kinda vacume leak somewheres...

Does it feel like there is a turbo kicking in at all? With it being stock it should be slightly noticable, but not as much as you would think...

You do have a snail looking thing on the exhaust side of the engin right? Just joking ;). Check to make sure your vacume lines to the boost sensor are hooked up correctly and not leaking.

A bone stock turbo supra is a lot slower than you'd think. Remember, it's a heavy bitch!

Actually when i pull up to a 94 cavalier four door auto w/ like 500 pounds of stereo equip i should at least stay beside it. Also Do u guys have any pics to show me the whereabouts of the boost sensor and hookups and such?

if you're under wide open throttle, and boosting 0, you have a massive boost leak.
