Please take a look at my cam saddles.

This head has ~6k on it. I was surprised to see damage on 2,3, and 4 of the intake side.

I'm pretty sure that my only option is to run it this way; but, is there anything I can do to help this or to prevent further damage? What do you guys think?

I sure wish these heads were designed with cam bearings...

I can post up close ups of any given saddle if necessary.

Thanks!

I've done a lot of drywall work so I was considering filling the grooves with JB Weld then giving it a good polishing job. ;)

Well, it sounds like I'm being overly concerned so I'll run it.

Thanks Ian!

I'd say it's pretty close to 50/50. Some a little more, some a little less. None of them show heat exposure or run low symptoms.

I come from a land down under
Plastigauge them and see if they're within tolerence.

I'd look at getting the Caps coated with Moly if the clearences are out of spec and you don't want to have them line honed.

Will do.

I am currently out of plastigauge. I guess that's a good excuse to get a bowl of ice cream and follow my favorite supramania colander-heads around. ;)

Thx...

Should have seen mine! I wouldnt worry about it. My clearances where all on the loose side. I found a set of mint stock cams that had almost no wear on the babbot material. Fresh material took up the loose clearances and warm idle psi increased 5psi :)

My old cams had almost nothing left in terms of babbot material.

I just set the oil pan two days ago and just this morning I remembered that I wanted to shim the oil pump a little bit. :slap: :3d_frown:

So, I guess this brings up another question. When a head and cams get redone, do the cams get ground or are they just scrap metal?

If they get ground, do the flat parts of the caps get shaved to keep tolerances within spec?

Just wondering if I should start keeping an eye out for another set of cams...

That damage is not much, i would take some fine emery cloth and just remove any burrs if there are any. Not to mention its the cap that takes all the load anyways, so the bottom half is less to worry about.

Hey Kenny I may have a set of BC 264's that I am not going to use.

Yeah, I might take them.

I'm not up on cams though. Are 264's or 272's the max before you have to upgrade springs and retainers and such? Also, are adjustable cam gears required?
