I own a 87 5 speed 7mgte supra with no engine or transmission also I have an 88 automatic 7mgte with 89,000 original miles just needs rod berrings. Should I take my automatic low milage car back to stock and sell it for money for a 2jzgte and r154 swap for my 87 five speed shell? Basically whats the value of my 88 7mgte bone stock vs building the 88 to 550 hp and then starting a 2jz swap project or sell it for money towards a 2jzgte supra???? My dream car is 2jzgte supra round 1000hp+ but seems like I got the means now to build my low milage 88 auto back to stock sell it and buy 2jzgte and r154 Trans and put in the pearl white 1987 five speed. I already have megasquirt 2.3 ecu w/pcb and 36inch by 12inch front mount, 3inch intercooler piping and an a/r Garrett 0.55 trim turbo. Just need help deciding any help or opinions would be appreciated and pros and cons and cost effective reliable horsepower. Thanks!

7M-GTE. Weak links beyond 550hp.

Your stock internals (headgasket excluded) are good for about 400hp. A stock headgasket is good for about 12hp. If you want 550hp from a 7M, you're going to need to fully build it. (Pistons, rods, etc.)

A 2JZ-GTE should handle 550hp with stock internals no problem.

Also, what Stillwater are you in? Minnesota or Oklahoma?

If you're looking to go 2JZ, why even bother with the 7M? Building it up to sell it probably won't be a smart move as you'll never get out what you put into it. I bought a rebuilt 7M with forged bottom end and HKS metal head gasket for $750. Eagle Rods alone were about $500...I never could've rebuilt mine for less than what I paid for the rebuilt engine. I might be able to sell my old 7M with rod knock for a couple hundred bucks.

Okay cool that answers my question thank you basically why build up my 7m past stock if my plan is to sell it for profit your right you rarely get out of it what you put into it. If you refer to my original post I already have a 7mgte with rod knock. Where are you located incase I go back 7m on my 87 supra then I might be interested in your black aswell?? Several members on this forum have stated that the 2jzgte can handle 1000hp with only changing wrist pins and valve springs and of coarse a 2mm metal headgasket is this true?

I'm in Dallas. I'm not sure what condition the old engine is really in. It was in the car when I bought it with 188k on the odometer. The previous owner replaced the HG but based on other "repairs" I've found, not sure he did a good job. Within a 1,000 of me buying it, it developed bad rod knock, but let me know if you'd be interested. Many say a full 2JZ swap can be about $8k so be prepared.

Its about 8k if you have a shop do it. If you do it yourself depending on what you get for it can be 4-8k. All the little things add up.

stock 2jzgte engine is around 1800-2200
