I always thought that because gravity increases towards the center of a mass, that one would have to withstand great pressure to go to the center of the earth.

The core of the planet is liquid for a reason, presumably because the pressure of gravity keeps it hot?

Been a while since I've studied any physics, lol. Someone comment on that?

Actually, many scientists are rethinking the liquid core theory.

In any case, yes, at the center there would be great pressure, but effectively no gravity, as the mass from one side is exerting the same force as the mass from the other side, effectively canceling each other out.

Remember that there is a large difference between the effect of gravity on YOU and the effect of gravity on the mass ABOVE you.

the inner core is solid iron, it's the outer core that is liquid...

you would be able to fall into the hole, but only to the center, where there would be no up, nor down (like in outer space), in effect you'd probably have to dig "upward", which would result in dirt hitting you in the face as you go up...

I respectfully disagree...if you were to drill a hole perfectly straight thru the earth and jumped in, you would eventually reach terminal velocity while falling and the momentum you gained would fight the reversed gravitational pull as you pass the core, until you reached the point of weightlessness. Then it the same thing, only going the opposite direction. Unfortunately, due to certain variables, you won't be able to achieve 100% efficiency and will eventually be stuck at the earth core forever and ever and ever and ever and....well, you get the point.

Enough about the center of the Earth..........did we ever really land on the moon? My Dad was an electrician on Apollo 6 thru Apollo 11. My opinion is that we did, but I guess if they were to pull off some conspiracy they would have to fool even those within the company. what are your thoughts.

Of course we did.

I'll share a bit of wisdom here.

One person can keep a secret.

Two people can keep a secret so long as one of them is dead.

How many people would be required to keep a secret if the moon landing was faked? Thousands. I don't think there is a group, government controlled or not, that is capable of keeping a secret like that for any length of time. It's just not in human nature to live a lie for that long.
