... unless you like going fast and getting parts for cheap.

Or having one of the best damn engines ever designed under your hood.

A stock LS1 / 6 speed is NOT fast. It's just that MKIII Supras tend to be REALLY SLOW.

Put this in perspective for you - my wife's bone stock 2.0L 4 cylinder 2005 SATURN ION is faster than a great many MKIIIs on here. Harsh, but true.

Hell, a V6 2008 HONDA ACCORD traps almost 102mph in the quarter mile. Yes, the Camaro is faster, but not by much.

The stock LS1 is no slouch, but it is not going to kill you. An LS1 Camaro / 6speed setup with an 'average' driver will knock down a mid-high 13 second quarter mile run @ about 104 mph.

Some of you on here need to come down and ride in Jeff's Supra, and find out what a quick car actually is.

You don't know much about cars do you?

Why because you happen to be a American car Fanboy. Shut it dumbass. Generally american cars have sucked since the 70's. yeah there are exceptions to the rule but they do not negate that rule. So go leg hump a Chevy fourm and save your insults for high school. D:3d_frown:umbass

I hate american cars but I have a damn lot of respect for a 4th gen F-body...

Friend's SS had a damn nice interior as well, not the typical shit interiors that Chevy has been known for.

Probably not.

Get this thread back on track, folks. Suggest cars for the OP, take your arguments regarding each others IQ, taste, and the problems facing various cars to another thread. Better yet, to PM, nobody really wants to read it.

Agreed, especially since they're not helping me much.
I really appreciate the suggestions and cautions I'm getting about the 'maros and the MKIIIs. And you're right, I won't have the issue a man would have with the Miata. Honestly, even I think they're ridiculous looking... I believe the term "PowerWheels" comes up a lot. But I could learn something from it, and that's my main goal with my next car. lol, and no one would have to worry about my "boyfriend" trying on my dresses after taking it for a spin. The closest thing I have to a boyfriend tried to test drive one once and couldn't slide the seat back far enough to make his legs fit comfortabley.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned mustangs yet. I drove a 5.0 for years with minimal maintenance, and parts are cheap (relatively) compared to GM F-body cars. While it doesn't have an optimal suspension setup, plenty of people have gone into the 11's with only minor modifications and good driving.

I had never really considered the mustang. Mostly bc I'm not particularly fond of them. I don't have a real reason behind it, they just don't give me the jollies.

I like the imports myself, but you know that! Personally, I'm a big fan of the Fbodies. Hell, I almost bought a '95 TA (LT1, 6speed). But the american cars tend to be larger, both physically, and the amount of power they make stock. Given this specific case, I think that's a bad thing. You'd still do well with either a 'Maro or a Fox body mustang, but the imports tend to be smaller, a little less powerful, and I find they handle better stock. Below is a list I put together of pretty much all of the recommendations so far, along with my personal thoughts:

Honda
- S2000 - Great little car, but not cheap.
- NSX - Great car, but really not cheap. Also, mid-engined, not front.

Mazda
- Miata - Great car, but TINY. Not bad as far as price goes though.
- Rx7 - Wonderful cars, but very light-weight. I've never driven them, but I understand they get a little squirrely if you're not experienced. Chad is an expert on these.

Mitsubishi
- Lancer Evo - Good car, but not cheap, and AWD not RWD
- 3000GT - Good, but not cheap. The VR4 is AWD, and I think the base model is FWD.

Nissan
- 240 / 260 / 280 / 300 / 350 Z series - Great cars all around.
- Infinity G35 - It's a 350Z, but costs more

Subaru
- Impreza - Great car, but not cheap, and AWD
- SVX - OK car, AWD, and hard to find in good condition.

Toyota
- Early model Corolla - Great cars, but I'd be worried about upkeep costs. Very little availability.
- Supra, any model - The best cars ever made!!!!
- MR2, any model - Damned good cars, but Mid-engined.
- Early model Celica - See Corolla

Lexus
- pretty much anything with the 3L inline 6 or 4L v8 - Um, I don't know much about these.

VW
- Golf - Don't know much about these either

Bugati
- Veyron - Are you serious?!?!?

Ford
- Mustang - Fox Body = awesome. Like Davis'. Anything after that, I hate.

Chevy
- Camaro - V8 = win, V6 = no posi. Still damned good cars though.

Dodge
- Dodge Stealth - See Mitsu 3000GT

DSMs - Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser - The AWD models came with the 4G63, which is a good engine, but it crankwalks. Base models are FWD.

Let me know if you want to do some research tonight or something.

If you can find a clean one,a MK2 supra,cheap,easy to work on,the 5M is a great motor,good looking,and a rather capable car(handling and power wise)

Thanks so much for all the input, friends. Financial situation might be solidified as early as Tuesday (wish me luck on that) and if that goes well I get to start watching for things to get put up for sale. If I get truly truly lucky, I might be into something exciting by the end of this summer!

If it were me and I wanted american I would agree with the F-body or fox body. Im not a fan boy either, but they have tons of aftermarket, they are cheap and end up sounding amazing! (dont tell my GM friends I said that).

That being said Ive always had the most fun in lighter cars and would love to pick up an early Nizzan 240 / 260 / 280 / 300. Most fun Ive had in a car was my friends 300zTT.

All depends on the comfort level and power level you desire.

I like my little 240sx. Good on mpgs, vast aftermarket support, stout 2.4 DOHC motor stock, an almost plug and play 2.0 turbo swap for ~2-3k (a few locals have achived 12s with just boltons), and most importantly I can reach everything under the hood without a hassel.

Older:
Conquest/Starion, old Z car, 240sx, Supra, Cressida, RX-7, galant VR4 (only 3k produced in the states), eclipse GSX, Old school 60s chevelle, nova, cuda, charger, camaro, and mustang.

Newer: S-2000, G35, M45, Audi RS8, zo6 Vette, G8 GXP, EVO, STI, SC300, IS300, GS300.
