Just to be clear - Look for a '98+ Camaro 6 speed. It only comes with the LS1 V8 ;)

If you have to settle, do NOT go older than the '93 - the LT4 swap will make that LT1 sing - but be prepared to deal with OptiSpark stupidity.

Optispark is DEATH, total bitch in the f-bodies, not too bad in the caprice and impala as you can get to the front of the engine easier, but routing of the wires is a nightmare...

Good comparison. Friend had an LT1 Camaro SS with headers, exhaust, cat delete, head work, cam, roller rockers, true CAI, tuning.... Sold it to buy an LS1 car because he LOST to one with exhaust and lid...

Honestly, way too much car (no offense).

Cheap, reliable, and fun as hell (and you're a chick so you can get away with it with ease).......MIATA!!!

lol........ Miata's way too easy to crack up if you don't know wtf you're doing. My best friend got a little too into the gas around a corner and nailed a Caddy....

Miata BAD

you can do that in a geo metro (but it's understeer instead)

Driver mod :D
Agreed. Any idiot (and most non-idiots) can mess up any car. Miata is a decent choice - light, responsive, rwd, it's one of the easier cars to learn with. The only problem with them is that any time a guy gets near one, the haydar meter pegs... not a problem for you.

Pity the day you send your boyfriend to the corner store for milk in it, though. Check to make sure he doesn't come back wearing panties and reading a knitting magazine. ;)

They're not hard to butch up though...

Put a cage, ITB's, header, exhaust, slight body mods, nice wheels and suspension and it's not too bad....unless it's pink or something LOL

Are you kidding me? Laura couldn't keep me out of her Miata! That thing is a fucking blast!!!

Just needed more LS1 is all :)

I'm sticking with my '98+ Camaro 6 speed recommendation, though. ;)

LOL, yep, they're like mopeds and fat chicks...

Hell, most of the "gay" cars are absolute blasts to drive (Mini Cooper, Miata...)

Why does everyone think that Optispark sucks? Optispark isn't bad. The optispark is just a distributor. If you are claiming all distributors suck then fine. But don't single out the Optispark, because it is not the problem. What is the problem is when dumb ass owners run the waterpump for too miles. Then it fails(which every water pump will eventually fail). And then it leaks on the Optispark. The placement of the optispark sucks not the system itself.

Not trying to be a jackass or anything but maybe your friend can't drive. I tear up LS1 cars with intake/cam/exhaust/tires all day at the track. And my LT1 is stock with headers and exhaust....

Placement of the optispark and that it's not easily serviced (parts, ect).

I'm calling BS as the LS1 guys must really not know how to drive or your car is gutted. This guy DOES (he does SCCA racing and autocross usually). LS1 is a much better engine in ever way.

It doesn't help that the weep hole is RIGHT ABOVE the optispark, which has NO drain (they did fix that in later optis, though)

If you change the water pump when it needs to be changed you will NEVER have a problem with the optispark. If will last just a long as any other distributor.

And yes my car is gutted.
But the LS1 vs LT1 fight is the same as the 1j vs 2j vs 7m. Everyone has opinions but one is not better than the other. LS1 makes more power stock but the LT1 is a boost happy motor. So which is better? There is no clear cut answer and there never will be. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. Plus Iron>Aluminum.

Why in the hell does he race in the SCCA with a Camaro or any solid axle car?
