Plastic sticker/chip guard behind doors

I'm in the process of prepping my car for paint, and have run into a little dilemma. The plastic sticker / chip guard between the rear of the door and rear wheel well is cracking, and we need to remove it. Here are my questions:

1) What would be the best way to go about removing it?

2) Is there an indentation underneath this chip guard in the body?

3) And if so, are these chip guards still available from the dealer?

Thanks in advance!

I have a set from the dealer from 6 years ago, don't know if they are still available.

I just painted those sections on my car and installed some plastic clear bra style plastic film. It was off the 'bay and was $2 a foot for .17 mil thick. Works well and went on in about an hour. I used the new ones from the dealer as my template.

3m sells it. they call it "paint protection film". it is quite a bit thicker and nicer made than the stuff from ebay, albeit at a price. i've used the cheaper stuff for short time use at the track. it got to be a pain to clean all the rubber off the rear bumper, so cut some of this stuff to put on there. at the end of the day you can just peel it away and its clean again.

On my 86.5 and 87T, they sanded them down a bit and painted over 'em. I'd be interested in knowing what's worked for others (when repainting), since I am going to get the '91 repainted soon.

pick up a stripe removal tool they are available at most body shop supply places
commonly refered to as a eraser wheel. makes removal a breeze and wont hurt the paint.

Yes, I ordered a set for my '91.

I screwed up one side of the factory set and only have one side left. The dealer set was $60 back in the day, the 'bay stuff is cheap and easy to do. I think I might do some bumper and front valance also.
