Hey guys,

Ive just completed my NA-T project, with a GE block, GTE electronics, and GE pistons ect...

Its mostly "BPU" for now, but for future upgrades what horsepower are these pistons generally limited to? I know that its mostly about the tune of the car, and keeping my AFR's in check and all. I will have it on a fairly conservitive tune, but lets say i went with a SP61GT turbo, or even the SP58GT or CT-26 57 trim turbo, what type of boost would i be looking to "safely" run?

Could YOU see 400 horsepower on GE pistons?

Factual responses only please! NO "blah blah blah i like like horespower"

We have an owner locally that has some GE hyperheuretic pistons running in the 400 range around here for a few years now (i don't think they are Toyota stockers though...can't remember). To paraphrase our tuner when asked the same question: fuel it right, time it right, tune it right and know there's only so far you can go with pump gas before you'll grenade any piston.

That's the key to this post, be careful with a high horsepower tune on those pistons.

Not to thread jack, but I had a similar but different question. Are GE pistons hypertectic? And are GTE pistons forged?

Hm... I love my supra, but im beginning to think maybe I should just buy my friends DSM, a hell of a lot easier to make faster for cheap. It came stock forged

But then again its only 4 cylinders.. haha

Severe detonation will put a hole in the piston at 300 hp the same as it will 400 hp. The hole just won't be as big.

Nick,

thanks, i realise that, but do you think it would be "safe" running a 57 trim with NA pistons. Im willing to spend a good amount on the tune, im jsut not ripping apart the block! :)

Sorry, heres a factual response

You can run any turbo on the pistons, and be fine, its all about your boost level, and your tune. Like he said, if thier is no detonation, your pistons should be fine until you push real big numbers.

The main key is having it dialed in REAL GOOD.

What I was trying to say, was you cant push too much boost, haha sorry. Too much boost = too much cylinder pressure, or no?

Yep but it's a volume thing not so much a pressure thing as a GT42 will flow MUCH more at 6 psi than a ct26 so Cylinder pressure will be much higher and the potential to drive over your own crank increases. ;)

Haha yea i know, Im just saying, depending on what turbo he uses, he just needs to set the PSI accordingly, then tune it

But I'm not expert on turbos, so I have no clue what PSI would be advised with a 57 trim

I'd just increase boost until it rattles slightly then back it down 3>4 psi and be happy knowing it's safe.
Too many people get caught up in the numbers chase.

I like that method :icon_bigg

Haha, thats the same for me. I couldnt care less if I lost 10 hp, if it meant that I knew my car would be 3x more reliable. Id sacrifice... oh idk, up to about 15-20 hp for safety, cuz im poor heh
