Piston Choice okay?

Bottom end i'm more concerned about. As i said, i'm just stock, the most i'll EVER push, is about 350bhp. I can barely use whatever i'm outputting at the moment, and toyota head bolts should be more than adequate as long as they're torqued down to 72lb/ft.

That said,

If you're considering using a composite HG and NOT going with ARP hardware, we will laugh when your head gasket blows up. Toyota head bolts stretch very easily in comparison to ARP Bolts/Studs.

Its an easy choice to make, your bottom end will be fine with OEM hardware. If you hav'nt been picked up on that by now you should really start reading more.

Er - theres nothing wrong with the stock gasket if you're STOCK. Neither is there anything wrong with the stock bolts, if you're STOCK.

Going for ARP hardware on the top end is all very well if there was any intention of going for power. I realised that the 7M is a flawed design, but at the 72 lb/ft torque for the headbolts, it should be more than adequate. The ones i have on there at the moment are stock and they're fine.

Wait wait wait - you want pistons for under $350?

Look up Probe Industries (I think they were forged slugs for about $350/set!)

Stock head gasket here, stock bolts at 72 lbs/ft, 12psi boost, 15000 miles and no problems with head gasket. No need for APR stuff on the bottom end at your power goals either. Stock engine from the factory is good for 400hp without any internal mods.

OK- you really need to do some reading on the stock bolts and why you DO NOT WANT TO USE THEM and you certainly do not want to re-use them.

The only reason I am posting this is so that somebody else readiing this thread doesn't go away with the idea that reuseing stock head bolts and torqueing them to 72 is acceptable.

Okay - numerous times i've been told that there is NOTHING WRONG with using the stock bolts on a STOCK engine - like mine. ARP's are a waste of money for me and i just need the engine to RUN NORMALLY. I'm not boosting every day, i'm not out for more HP yet - when i am, i'll use ARP's - til then though, i'm sticking with a set of new, stock headbolts.

Anyway - back to the pistons.

They arrived this morning with the set of rings - well packaged, and they look rather like this....

Standard cast slugs - ceramic coated tops - they look decently made - the casting marks read "TEIKIN" if that means anything to anyone.

Should be installing these pretty soon.

^^^^ what he said, DO NOT use the cork sump gasket it will only leak (ask me how i know) I'm going to be wipping my engine out soon to fix that pesky oil leak.
