This is for guys with front facing intake manifolds on either engine who have not re-located their batteries and have the large, ebay-style (24x12x3ish) intercoolers. I would like to see some pictures of your intercooler pipe routing as it exits the intercooler. Shots from above would be cool as well. What is the maximum dimension piping you guys are using between the radiator and the front of the engine?

thanks,
adam

I have a 2jz but same concept.. 2.5" piping with Fal fans, fits pretty good.. covers fit right over it, just had to cut a few holes in the covers for the pipes..

thanks for the pics - just one question, is it possible to run the piping without any sheet metal removal, or was it pretty much necessary?

unfortunately mine is all pulled apart but I have the set-up you are referring to.

Out of the turbo I used a 70* pipe then a slight bend needed to be made for mine (you can get away with a hump coupler) to make it parallel with the car from there is about 9inches of straight pipe to a 90* allowing the pipe to cross just in front of the radiator support. Then across the front of the support to a 180* pipe and into the cooler.

Out of the cooler is a 90* to get back to the front firewall, then a 90* up to the opening for the airbox (slight twist in the up pipe allows me to get over to the outside of the airbox hole) then another 90* to get through the airbox hole, from there its pretty self explanitory to get to your 3000pipe.

If you really get stuck I could probably assemble the pipes out of the car so you can get an idea of how they work. Let me knw if you REALLY need me to do that.

this is for front facing intakes - i see you are referring to the stock style. My piping routing is going to be exactly the same as tissimo's.

Right, I wasnt thinking. For some reason I had in my head that the exit of the intercooler was the same for both of us. Now I see the error of that thinking.

Good luck with that.

its pretty much necessary to remove a little bit of sheet metal.. a sawzall or something will be needed.. Unless you route similar to stock 1jz piping and get a SRT-4 Style intercooler

I had a question about this too, but I didn't want to make a new thread. Instead of running a pipe across the motor, over the hot turbo to a 90* through the airbox hole by the headlamp, would it fit using a 2.5" pipe mounted like the 1GGTE and having it exit like in tissimo's first picture. Like this but with a 2.5" hardpipe:

edit: instead of going all the way across, they both make a 90* turn essentially. My idea in a nutshell: 90* out of tb to front of motor and down at ~45* like the 1GGTE to the driver side intercooler outlet. From turbo compressor, making its way to the pass. side of the intercooler. Much shorter piping, right? And basically the same amount of turns, not as smooth on 1 MAYBE 2 bends. Generally the same as like this picture just a ton less piping if it would fit under the hood:

I would be relocating the coil pack to the back of the engine so that wouldn't be a problem
