What's going on guys! Here are a few pics of my new elbow from Jon @ MDC. It's a custom V-Band 3" elbow with a 2.5"-3" adapter. It's also got an EGT and o2 sensor bung welded on. Tell me what you think. Thanks a lot guys.

Thanks man. It really is a gorgeous piece. His welds are top-knotch and he can make just about anything. He's the reason why I decided to go with an External WG set-up as well. Thanks again Jon.

No problem man. It was my pleasure. It should def. fit, I'm not too worried. I'm figuring out what to buy from you next. Maybe a nice 1 piece DS, or harness bar? hmmm.....

Thanks man. It's going to be attached to a Frankenstein 5 Greddy TD06-20g. I got this made since I'll be running it on an ebay manifold (jet-hot coated?) and also with an HKS 40mm Standard external wastegate.

WOW what a nice peice of art!! :D Congrats too MDC! V-band rules! and some blings doesn't hurt. LOL

Wouldn't it be better to have your EGT pre-turbo than post turbo? Post turbo EGTs a pretty useless considering we don't know how much heat the turbo took out from the exhaust stream.

I agree about the EGT. I've seen both ways done. The trust turbo elbow it came with was tapped for an EGT, so I just figured I'd do this one the same.

IMO....The best place for an accurate EGT is in the turbo housing, just after the flange that bolts up to the manifold. If you put the EGT probe after the turbo, your readings will be 100-200 deg less.

BTW - Very nice work Jon ;)

Well, apparently post turbine EGT's are not useful. According to DocJ, "you want the EGT probe upstream of the turbo. put it in the collector to get an average of all the cylinders or put it very close to cyl #1 since it should be the most lean (in theory, based on stock fuel flow)...." I'm still new at this so I'm trying to figure it all out....

its up to you mo. but i would leave it alone. you have a wideband, and i care more about that than an egt. sure, an egt is helpful in tuning, esp back in the "old days". however, running a wideband now i use it exclusive for tuning. egt can show mixed results. run too rich and it will show a low temp due to cooling from excess fuel. but, run too lean and it will show the same thing due to cooling from the excess air.
sure, it will be more accurate and quicker responding pre-turbo. but, i still believe it is useful post turbo as well. if you have a problem that is bad enough to shoot up egt's, it will show up post turbo as well as pre turbo. 100-200 deg F isnt enough to make a difference to me. i know this isnt a diesel truck, but 99% of them run post turbo. one last thought, if the egt burns up and breaks off (it can happen) guess where it is going? yep, right thru the turbine housing.

i mainly keep one for 2 reasons. any bit of info you can have about the car the better. and wb02 will not show a problem w/ timing, an egt will.

just my thoughts, take it fwiw.
