Here's what happens when you have a good MHG torqued down properly and boosting 19 psi on stock CT26 with stock internals. stock fuel pump with 550 cc injectors.

I was going 120mph in 5th.. I suspect the fuel pump couldn't keep up and i ran lean causing that.. i have just finished the rebuild, so i'll be posting more pics as soon as i can..

Should've had a Wideband :[

and a fuel pressure guage.. finished the rebuild already but trying to get my wideband hooked up now before turning up the boost.

19 psi on a stock ct26...

hot air. weak fuel pump, Detonation. Death.

Check, Check, check and check.

At least the hot air can vent out before it harms something else! ;)

Out of curiosity:

- What RPM did this happen?
- The high speed run, how long was it sustained before this happened?
- What kind of spark plugs and what was the gap?
- Did you have an AFPR installed; if so what kind?
- Was the motor tuned with the FCON and what AFRs?
- Was a functioning EGR installed on this motor?

It sucks that happened...I would like to see pics of this one and the other 5 pistons from the top when you get them out.

Could be a bad injector too...that's why I want to see pics of the other 5 pistons ;)

- my mechanic asked that question, can't remember, but 120 in 5th with stock drivetrain = around 5k?? or higher?
- was doing a good run thru hilly and curvy road for about 5 mins, then the high boost was only bout 20-30 seconds.
- spark plugs were NGK iridiums gapped to reg riemer's specs (i'd have to check what it was again, i have a bad memory)
- stock fpr (not smart, i know)
- never really tuned it with the fcon cuz didn't have wideband monitor
- egr was installed

from the top the others looked ok, i'll try to get more pics for ya'll.

ok that would be just bad, cuz my new setup used the same injectors. fuel pump was upgraded to walbro, and got a wideband monitor now.

I'd still like to see pics of all 6 pistons ;)
Pics of your plug tips would help too.

The reason I asked about the plugs (I guessed right BTW) is iridium's can glow plug after a sustained run. Minor detonation can make it worse (heats up the tips). If they do glow plug, pre-ignition can occur and that is far worse than detonation...you can torch a piston in very short order. Especially if you go just a bit lean...you set yourself up for this with a stock pump and stock AFR.

The other pistons will tell-the-tale. This event may have several contributing factors ;)

I highly suggest you get those injectors flow tested.

19psi of boost = about 60psi of static pressure on the pump not including pressure drop from your lines. The walbro will flow 190lph at that pressure. 170lph if you assume an additional 10psi of drop from the lines.

550cc injectors will flow 163lph @85% duty cycle, and 198lph maxed out.

I've dyno'd 400whp on the stock fuel pump. It was running out of flow, but it WAS flowing enough to support it.
