Well, you're right about one thing: you have a very basic understanding of this stuff. I thought you just wanted to fix the car. My bad.

Looking over Ohm's law one more time, and I notice what you're saying. Adding resistance will actually increase voltage. Although I'm assuming the current is low enough that it doesn't make a bit of difference?

So my problem indeed lies in the knock sensor circuit. I'm assuming I can back probe the knk terminals at the ECU to check for voltage? What sort of voltage would I be looking for? A quick glance through the TSRM and it doesn't cover anything with the knock sensors.. Even going through the codes, most of them say "See page "blah blah blah"". For 52, it doesn't list a page..

Last time I checked my KS by tapping them on a hard surface, the voltage generated was very low mV. IIRC, it was like 20-90 mV. More voltage seen, more knock.

Would you mind back probing them with a running engine? It would be much appreciated..

EDIT: I checked both knock sensors and they were both putting out voltage. I ohmed out the wiring and wiggled and jiggled from the bay and it never disconnected. I did notice that some of the wire going into the knock sensor connector itself had some green corrosion in it.. Would that be my issue?

My rewire went as such: I bought some knock sensor connector with pigtails off of a member on the forums, and using that and some shielded microphone cable from radioshack, I rewired the knock sensors. I simply soldered the wire onto the pigtail, and then cut the knock sensor wires at the ECU about 3 inches from the ECU connector, and then soldered the microphone wire to the ECU connector. Then I grounded the shield at a clean bolt under the dash. Is the old wiring at the knock sensor connection most likely my issue here? I wish I could get a definitive answer if the problem lies with the knock sensors or the wiring, but the code only comes up once every couple months..

Just ordered two new knock sensor connectors from Toyota. If this doesn't fix my code 52, I'll either end up fully rewiring it, again, or replacing one of my knock sensors. or do both.

Well, I replaced the connector ends, and there's no code 52. It did seem to help turbo response, but its still slow.. cps then?

Dude I'm still saying boost controller and turn it a bit up. It felt quick to me for stock boost. That 57 trim is begging to be turned up lol.

Using a mix of stock+ radio shack microphone cable for signal is the first place I would start.
Run back through this link. http://oldschool.supracentral.com/htm/knock.htm

The sensors or wiring can have issues long before code 52 is thrown. Code 52 is an outright failure via a short or open circuit. Nothing to indicate poor shielding or signal integrity with out a scope

Edit: missread

Here's the video. 5500 rpm in second is roughly 60. So thats 8 seconds 0-60, and 4k rpm in 4th is 81. So make that like 15 seconds 0-80.

This is with the A/C on, but I've timed 6 before, there's definitely something wrong here haha. And.. on the way home, the computer illuminated the CEL. SO I checked the codes.

wtf. There's a whole plethora of them. I think I found my issue(s)!

CODES:

Water temp sensor or circuit 22

Intake temp sensor or circuit 24

Speed sensor or circuit 42

Ignition switch or circuit 43

Knock sensor or circuit 52

I cleared all the codes, and I'm going to check if they come back. I'm sure they will.. I was really curious if the 52 was stored from before I put the new connectors on. The weird thing is I haven't seen the CEL on before today... I honestly just want to buy a brand new Toyota wiring harness....

Way slow. Even at only 10 psi with a 57 trim I have no traction through 1st and 2nd.
BTW, intake temp sensor is integrated with the AFM in case you didn't already know.

You're going to be amazed with the power once you fix the KS wiring. (RG58, ground shielding at ECU side)

Ill drive my car around quite a bit today, since I pulled the EFI fuse to crank for oil pressure after my oil and filter change. Hopefully the code 52 was from before I replaced the connectors. If not, I'm going to shop around for a good condition wiring harness, do a proper KS rewire on that, and then throw that on my car. Tired of wiring issues, and this harness is full of them.
