well yea,, all i do id web surf with this machine. i have a nice laptop with XP and it has all the bells and whisles.

so how can i fix my comp.. it locks up like 3 times a week.

( i think i have to much porn in my system :) )

Did you run Cleanup! ? it sounds like you have too many programs trying to run eating up your memory & too many downloads eating up your hard drive space.

First, run cleanup!. This file free up a lot of space on your hard drive. Later, go through add/remove programs & see what you do & don't use any more & remove the thing you don't (if your not sure, leave it as another program you do use might depend on it to operate correctly). Lastly, go into your start up menu (list of programs that start automatically when you boot up) & get rid of things such as Quicktime other programs that will start when you click on an associated file.

Linux for a browsing/word processing/web server type machine.
WinXP Pro for games.

If you like the idea of a free OS like linux, but aren't sure about being technical enough try Ubuntu(www.ubuntu.com). They are based on Debian linux and their moto is 'Linux for Humans'. Even my non-techie fiance prefers Ubuntu over Windows now that she's tried it.
And once you learn how to use linux(you didn't just know Windows at first if you remember), you CAN play the latest games. There are tons of people playing World of Warcraft on linux boxes.

Well.... kindof. WOW isn't exactly the latest game anymore - if you don't mind waiting a month or so until the community gets each one working properly. I tend to finish games within days of their release, so building in an extra few weeks to get them working on my OS isn't an option. :(

Not all gamers are as hardcore as you are. :icon_eek:
Personally, I used to be that way, but have been too busy between Supra maintenance, the fiance, work... that the only time I really get to spend on the PC has been spent vegging out surfing the net or playing solitaire and MUDs(yeah, old-school, but I find them very relaxing).
But even next summer when I do have the time to build another system, games will be high on my list, but not at the top, so linux will suit me better than Windows.
Not because I hate Redmond(which I don't, BG has done a lot for computing), but because I like the open license style and being able to customize every facet of my machine.
My fiance will probably get an iBook, once again not to spite MS, but because for her needs/skill level it fits her just right.

I'm running a Dell 400 MHZ PII. Its plenty fast for the internet. It origianlly came with Windows 98. But I got a full legal XP Pro operating system for $125 and installed it. This comuter is just for the internet. So when things get sour, I just reformat the HD and reload everything.
XP is the best operating system Bill has come up with yet.
