My wheels on the daily have a black powdercoat, and the only time they got nicked was when a rock flew up from a truck passing me @ 80. Ide say it is pretty damn hard stuff.

Pat, how dureable is powdercoating? Does it flake off easily if bumped with a wrench or is it pretty tough?
The purple looks great......only, it's purple.....:icon_bigg

Jay, powder coat is pretty dam tough! Its hard to scratch or chip. Certainly more durable than standard paints. Its also supposed to be very chemicla resistant compared to paint also, though i havent tested it yet with anything other than acetone, which does soften the podercoat alot. I will take a trial peice and put some gloss on it and then test it with some oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, ps fluid and such to see if it at all effects the coating. Otherwise i will have to find an epoxy clear to use to help protect the finish....

Most wheels are powder coated if they are not polished, and they tend to hold up for years....

More powder pics!

Just got done coating one of the valve covers for my 1j... Turned out pretty good, but unfortunaly some dirt fell ontop of the valve cover while it was in the oven. There is some soot on the roof of the oven, which i need to clean cause the dirt really pissed me off, but oh well... Hope you guys enjoy.

Man that looks great!!!:aigo: . Is there any issues with powder coating an intake mani or any aluminum that could warp in the heat of the oven?

I suppose there could be for some very thin parts, but so far havnt had any problem. While 400 degrees is hot, its not all that much hotter than it would be while your racing your car on a hot day. For the engine parts that is...

So far i have powdered the PS resivoir, and valve covers for my 1jz, and no warpage. I also did that evo valve cover, which is magnesium, and it didnt warp either... So i feel pretty safe so far with powdering any car parts...

Seals on the other hand, can be a huge issue, they will all need removed. Im not looking forward to doing the brake calipers, because i just rebuilt the damn things and dont feel like re assembling them again.

It's got to reach 400 degrees Mike and that's pretty much all the instructions say. You cook it for ten minutes, and then let it cool off.

I've did just about all of my engine in the chrome as well.

Excellent job!!! I sent some of my 7mge cam covers out for powder coat, $50.00 for each cam cover. It looks like you can save some $$$$. I read somewhere, you should use an old oven to bake the parts. If you use your cooking oven, all of your oven baked food will taste like plastic
