parts cleaner?

the information mentioned below refers to parts washers/cleaners.

can anyone give me some general info on parts cleaners? getting ready to buy one, what should I look for?

what kind of parts can i clean (intake manifold?) that wouldnt be messed up by the cleaner?

does the cleaner type dictate what parts i can clean?

total newb questions, but oh well.

I usually use simple green and some brake cleaner.....I am sure you probably know this but I wouldn't recommend cleaning out the AFM...... :icon_bigg. I would think that simple green should work on the manifold!!!!

Want a cheap parts washer? buy an old used dish washer and fill it with either simple green or some kind of citrus cleaner. Make sure its outside in case it over bubblizes.

im going to try to hit my intake manifold and stuff with some shells.. picked up everything cheap at harbor frieght..

Please don't listen to the ^ above mentioned unless you want a foam pit party on your hands.

The best stuff that I have found is either the Heritage, Safety Clean, or ZEP auqueous baking soda cleaners. They work great in the hot water enviroment, are 100% non toxic, and they don't sud up into a big bubbly mess.

how about for parts washers, i shoulda stated that before.

so far ive got a big basin, say a 20 gallon capacity with a 12 gallon working capacity and flex metal spout. anyone have advice for buying one of these?
