Well it sure is a good thing everyone doesnt have that same attitude about it, otherwise there would be very few old cars left on the road.
There's Supras that are fixer uppers and Supras that should just be put out of their misery. It's not a travesty or anything.

You have to start somewhere when you buy an old car. If there isnt anything severly wrong with it (such as major accident damage) than what is wrong with investing a little time into it to bring it back to life? I dont know what it is with people having the idea that they need to buy somehting in top condition otherwise it isnt worth owning, and if it falls below their expectations then fuck it, just get rid of it and buy another one. Keep that up and they soon will be very rare. Not all Supras that are still around can be in perfect condition, just because they are not, doesnt mean they are worthless junk.

You're right. you do have to start somewhere but that somewhere doesn't need to be a POS BHG'd rusted car.

Not everyone wants to create an episode of overhaulin in their garage. Tons of people buy beater Supras for cheap thinking they're getting a good deal. Once they get the car back to decent shape, they've spent alot more than they would have had they just bought a clean good running car in the first place. I gladly paid 8k for my 92. If I bought some other cheap car and tried to bring it up to the level mine is at now, you can be sure I'd spend alot more than 8000 dollars and who knows how much in lost time and wages. Fixing up a poor condition car isn't worth everybody's time and money.

If Supras became rare because neglected ones are parted out or crushed, GOOD. It would be a glorious day when a clean MK3 Supra isn't some amazing rare occurence. Luckily we have a pretty decent concentration of nice cars here on SM. Outside of SM in the real world, it's not like this. If I had a dollar for every poor condition MK3 I see and subtracted a dollar for every clean MK3 I see, I'd still be drowning in dollars.

Im sure things are a bit different in California than in Massachusetts. Regardless of the cars outward condition, it should be expected that things such as the wheels wells will have holes rusted through them, or at least getting to that stage. I know when I bought my supra 4 years ago It had pretty severe rot in the wheels wells, big deal I said. Two weeks later I cut all the rot out welded new metal in and just like that it was as good as new. Spent maybe $100 on supplies? It looks original after applying the undercoating (not that it matters seeing as it is not seen anyway...) and it will last the rest of the cars life.

Every other supra I see around here (which is very rare) is usualy in decent shape outwardly, and even if it isnt, they are 99% of the time easily fixed. The most common problem, and most expensive to be fixed, is the fact that the paint is pretty much no longer there. If your going to tell me that a Supra should be crushed because the 20+ year old paint is no longer fresh, then you are just plain retarded, you might as well go buy a mercedes or something.

can you fix the smog problem?

Probably but i dont want to get into it. it could be costly it could be a few hoses. I would just like some extra cash to finish up my other supra and my 280 in picking up this weekend.

it's kinda like that movie "The One" every supra that dies makes ours that much closer to a collecter. lol but seriously why not have them spend the $500 they will give you to try to fix it then if it still needs more then get rid of it. or can you not do that?

One itsa PITA to do that it takes a while, and i'd rather not wait 4 months to get a check in the mail for 500 after i spent 1000+ for a new engine and all the crap the smog reff's say you need

Pandaplastic, I saw your for sale thread, I cant say that the car is in very bad condition, looks pretty nice actauly. You say the state will give you $1000 for the car to "recycle" it, so dont waste your time with low offers. Well I have a question for you, what if someone who was really looking for a supra to buy to restore, but lets just say they only had $800 available to spend. Would you sell it to them for $800 knowing the car will have a chance at having its life renewed? or for the extra $200 would you have it recycled?
