Parking Brake Cable Replacement

I'm going outside now to change my e-brake cable (front part, the single cable section). I haven't done this job yet so I don't know what I'll run into, but I'm confident I can do it.

I've done some searching and I found a few pics, very few, and a little talk about it.

As I'm about to change and head out there soon and I would like to know from people who have changed the cable already if there is anything I should look out for. Basically any advice or heads-ups.

I'd even appreciate a basic walkthrough, though it isn't necessary, but it would be helpful to go out there looking for things to do.

Any help is appreciated. I'm looking for help from people who had experience with doing this already, thanks.

Remove the driver's seat, makes it a lot easier to remove the e-brake handle assembly...

I'm still open to suggestions/advice. I went out and did the speedo cable instead. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be actually. Only an hour's work. I would have tackled the e-brake but I started late and ran out of daylight.

Anyways, it worked out ok. My plan was to do the speedo cable tomorrow, so I just ended up reversing the plan. More time for replies. Thanks

I hope you've got the driveshaft out of the car...if not, it is going to be tricky getting at the front/rear cable attachment point.

And if you are removing your driveshaft, get a bucket to catch the transmission fluid.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it out, but if I do it's no problem. Would you say it's too tricky to do with it on (yet doable), or taking the ds off would be a much easier route to go?

IIRC the cable runs directly over the driveshaft...and IIRC there's almost no room in there?

well, put it this way. I've never made the attempt with the DS in place.

Unbolt from the diff, and unbolt the center bearing, and let it hang down. Don't slide the yoke out of the tranny or you might lose fluid (mine didn't, but I used a yoke from another driveshaft to plug the hole when needed)

No need to remove it compleatly...just unbolt it from the diff (4 bolts)...unbolt the crossbar thing (2 bolts)....unbolt the center support bearing (2 bolts)...let it rest on the ground with the yoke still in the trans.

Cool thanks, that's definitely useful to me...since I was planning to go out there and take it out completely.

Although, I think my diff. is leaking, I took some pics when I was under there doing the speedo cable but the front of the car was on ramps so the back end was low, resulting in close-up shots.

Close-up + Flash + Liquid = Glare.

Anyways, I'll get to that in another thread.
