I painted my car with base clear and I did it in with 2 quarts of paint, and a gallon of clear. You mix the paint 1-1 so it makes a gallon!!!! I did 2 coats on the car. Had non left when I finished so if you want extra buy a gallon. If you only buy two quarts have them mix it together so you have the same color. I did 3 coats of clear and had some of that left. Good luck!!!!

So, painting the car in the garage if you cover the area correctly? Bad idea or is this how you all did it? I have access to an automotive paint gun and wanted to do this, but I thought you needed a special spray booth?

How much would you guys estimate a gallon of jet black paint and some clear coat? I wanna do this if I can at home. I have a big enough garage and well ventilated.

You need to do major intense prep work on the car and the spotless garage, the paint will find its way onto EVERYTHING that is not covered and sealed off. And evrything you missed cleaning the garage will find its way to your new paint.

wow $400, any pics?

Where can I learn the prep work of this sort of project Id LOVE to do this myself, I love ANY DIY project on my car, if I could paint it myself, Id love to, that would make my year!

My garage is big, and I could most certainly block off everything and clean the area, plenty of room to work with in my opinion. Ill show pics later.

Here is my ROTM win thread for your picture request!!!

As far as prep work lots of books out there and videos. My dad was into painting cars so I grew up around it. I have made many mistakes and I am still learning. Adjuster has a great thread around here as well with all the steps to painting a car. I think that thread was stickied if im not mistaken.

nice, looks great guys, really giving me confidence to do this, where can I buy the paint?

My paychecks every week are about to jump $100 for the next 6 in a row, I will have a little extra to do this. Oh and how long does this take?

You'd better spend a lot of time on your prep. You'll think you've got it perfect and after it's painted, I guarantee you find twenty little dings. That clear coat will really bring out the flaws. I bought my paint at econo paint and body, but I didn't spray it myself. I had someone do it in a paintbooth. I'm not as talented as DaSoup is. I also don't have a garage..............lol
