Painting Interior, Sand Free Primer problems...

Well I am in the midst of painting my interior with all SEM products. Here is a breakdown of what I purchased.

12 - 16oz SEM Satin Black Color Coat Aerosols
2 - 1 Quart SEM Vinyl Prep Cans
2 - 1 Quart SEM Plastic Prep Cans
2 - 1 Quart SEM Soap Cans
2 - 1 Quart SEM Sand Free Primer Cans

The SEM Sand Free Primer is supposed to be sprayed on in a medium thickness and then you are supposed to spray on your first coat of paint , while the Sand Free Primer is still wet. My problem is that I bought the SEM Sand Free Primer in a 1 Quart can, and not in an aerosol, which was my mistake.

Renting an HLVP gun is not an option right now because not only does it cost around $100 a day to rent, not all of my interior pieces are worthy of painting, meaning I still have to source more parts, which could take weeks.

Does anyone make any kind of refillable aerosol can where I could just pour the liquid in a bottle and just simply spray it. I was thinking of using an empty Windex bottle or something, but the sprays probably won't be so even.

Any other suggestions?

Yes... I can't remember what it's called, but you can get it at napa or any car paint store, it is in aerosol can that has a detachable canister where you pour the paint in

Or you can also try the hobby shop they have aerosol air brushes.

an HVLP gun is like 150 from sears.

Pep Boys has one for around $89.00 that didn't look too bad. As I recall it was a knock-off of a deville bliss, HVLP and gravity feed.

hell, WAL-MART of all places sells a HVLP set around here...

I dont want to spend the money on an HLVP gun if I dont have to really. An aerosol can should do the trick. Thanks a bunch guys. I will check Napa tomorrow.

When Jay (suprahero) and I did his interior we used scotchbrite pads to scuff it up. Then we just used a cleaner degreaser to prep, followed by a tach cloth. Then we just had dupont base mixed to the color he wanted and I shot it with my hvlp and we called it a day. Here is a picture!!!

Jay has had no problems that I know and it has held up very well over the last year.

Im sure you can do the same with spray cans, just have Napa put your color of choice into cans for you.:icon_bigg

The Sand Free Primer I have sais its used for plastics, ABS, PVC etc. Should I use it on the vinyl pieces like the door panels and dashboard?

Explain scuffing it up...When I hear scuffing I think scratched and it would show thru the paint. Did you sand it after scuffing it up?

I know that in the other city I lived in there was a house of colors that could put it in a spray can for you. You might look to see if there is one in your area.

I have finally started to paint my interior. As we speak I am painting the window switches, and door pieces. Looks good.
